Why HOME ALONE Actor’s Kids Won’t Be Watching Iconic Christmas Movie

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actor Kieran Culkin recently revealed why his kids won’t be watching holiday classic HOME ALONE this year.

Culkin, brother to HOME ALONE star Macaulay Culkin, shares two children with wife Jazz Charton — daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3.

When asked if the family would be watching the beloved Christmas movie, Culkin said no.

“There’s still some scary parts,” the actor told E! News. “For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a 3-year-old.”

Culkin added that, while his kids “might be ready” to watch HOME ALONE this year, he doesn’t want to take any chances — “[Maybe] next year!”

His decision is a good reminder for parents to be aware of what we let our kids watch. Depending on where they’re developmentally, a certain movie or show might not be appropriate for them yet.

The SUCCESSION actor appeared in HOME ALONE alongside his brother and recently reminisced about his time making the movie in an interview with the L.A. Times.

“I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it,” Culkin shared. “I was at the premiere, and I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea what the movie was about.”

Culkin is a successful, in-demand actor these days, but he told The Hollywood Reporter that his favorite role is being a dad.

“I’m really looking forward to [some downtime] because the last couple weeks I haven’t really been much of a parent, which…makes me feel like I’m not me,” he said, referring to his promotional work for his latest movie, A REAL PAIN. “I’m going to turn the world off for about a week and just be a dad. ‘Did you read the email?’ No, I did not. [I’m doing] nothing at all, except just diapers and bath time and stuff for like a week.”

Culkin added, “I get these, thankfully, these large periods of time where I get to just do that, and that’s where I feel like I’m most me.”
