Kirk Cameron recently sat down with Movieguide® to talk about his latest project, IGGY AND MR. KIRK, his rejection of atheism and why he chose to bring his wife in to kiss in a movie scene.

“Are you tired of all of the garbage that’s being pumped out by big Hollywood studios?” he told Movieguide®. “We’ve got ideologies that are being pumped into our children’s minds that are undermining the kinds of Christian values we want to teach them.”

An official synopsis of the show reads, “Laugh, learn, sing, and play along with Iggy the Iguana in Iggy and Mr. Kirk. Watch as Iggy discovers the importance of honesty, forgiveness, bravery, and more! Iggy may not have it all figured out, but thanks to Mr. Kirk, Iggy’s friends, and some great Freedom Island stories, he’ll grow a little more each day.”

Cameron shared that main character Iggy is “learning lessons that every 5-year-old has to learn in life; lessons about forgiveness, lessons about honesty, about overcoming your fears…and knowing that God is the one who loves him best and knows best how he should live.”

“No one should outsource their parenting to good television shows,” he added. “However, when you have a company like Great American Family…they’re a tool in your toolbox. IGGY AND MR. KIRK is something to come up alongside you as you raise your children and reinforce the values that you hold so dear.”

Cameron also spoke about his past atheism, saying that “pride drove” those feelings “as a young man.”

“I wouldn’t say that I found God,” he continued. “God found me.”

Cameron has previously spoken about his conversion, telling PragerU, “I knew that if there was a heaven, I wouldn’t be going there because of my attitude…and I thought I would humble myself and pray for the first time.”

“I started going to church more often, I began to read the Bible, and it began to change me on the inside,” he continued.

Cameron’s faith even influenced the way he acted on movie sets, specifically FIREPROOF, where he chose not to kiss the actress who was playing his wife. Instead, he had his wife come in to do the scene instead.

“If I had kissed the actress in the movie, that would have violated my own conscience. That’s the bottom line,” he said. “I made a promise at the altar.”

Cameron’s faith has guided him through Hollywood and his tumultuous teen years, and parents who grew up with him on GROWING PAINS are excited to introduce him to a new generation through IGGY AND MR. KIRK.
