Lala Kent Thanks God For 5 Years Of Sobriety: ‘I’m So Grateful’

VANDERPUMP RULES star Lala Kent is celebrating 5 years of sobriety.
“I’ve been sober for 5 years today,” she captioned a photo of herself and daughter Ocean, 2. “On this day I replay my rock bottom moment. All the details of what happened on this day. Waking up, admitting I was powerless, and for the first time in many years seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Kent continued, “I’m so grateful for this day. I will continue to work hard for my sobriety, & take a moment of silence for the alcoholic who still suffers. I see you- I love you. Thank you, God.”
The reality star has been open about her struggles with alcohol but calls sobriety “the best gift I’ve ever given to myself.”
“I am approaching one day at a time, but I’m approaching five years of sobriety and my daughter’s 2½, so I stay sober obviously for me, because if you stay sober for someone else, that’s just a recipe for relapse,” Kent told PEOPLE. “But to think about the fact that my child is always going to see me in this form and never under the influence, you can’t put a price on that. I am very grateful I found sobriety when I did.”
Kent is adamant that, while she chose sobriety for herself, her decision was also strengthened by the birth of her daughter.
“When I look at my child, I think to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, I had a few years of sobriety under my belt before I became a mother.’ Knowing that she will never witness her mommy losing control due to her innate nature,” she explained. “[Ocean] will never see me in an altered state because of substances. And, to me, that’s worth everything. So, I’ll fight for my sobriety for the rest of my life.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Kent’s sobriety journey:
Her sobriety journey began nearly five years ago. After her father died in 2018, Kent turned to alcohol to help her cope. She eventually recognized that her drinking habits left her “unable to remember what happened the next day.”
“I’m beyond grateful for this path that God & my late father placed in front of me,” she said of her sobriety journey two years ago. “I’m grateful for my sober coach & my sponsor who I consider angels. I’m grateful for the program & the men and women who have shared their stories so honestly, giving me hope and inspiration to continue to never pick up a drink again.”
Since getting sober and having her daughter, Kent is “present for every single moment.”
“The fact that my child will never see me in an altered state, that’s just amazing,” she said. “I get to sit here and just remember her hands or the first time we went to a barbecue and she got in the pool. I remember every detail.”
“[Getting sober is] the proudest thing I have ever done, aside from becoming a mother,” Kent revealed. “My first priority is always my sobriety. It comes before everything— because without it, I am of no use.”
