Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are starring in the upcoming comedy FREAKY FRIDAY 2, and while Lohan “can’t say much” about the movie, she’s having fun being on set.
“It’s going to be a really freaky Friday. Much freakier than you would expect,” Lohan said in a GOOD MORNING AMERICA interview Thursday.
Movieguide® reported on the sequel’s production last week:
“The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to FREAKY FRIDAY is now in production!” Disney announced on X on June 24.
“The sequel picks up years after Tess and Anna switched bodies, with Anna now having a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. According to the film’s synopsis, “As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” The Hollywood Reporter said.
The original movie’s leads — Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon — are all set to return. LATE NIGHT’s Nisha Gantra is tagged to direct.
It’s been rumored that the movie will stream on Disney+ upon its release. However, Variety shot down that speculation last week, confirming that it will release in theaters.
Lohan added that “It’s fantastic” to film with much of the same cast and crew 22 years after the original’s release.
“I mean, we all just have so much fun and it’s so great to have that on set,” THE PARENT TRAP star said. “You just always really want to have a good time. So it’s just yeah a lot of love, a lot of fun, a lot of laughs. It’s a great experience.”
The actress and her on-screen mom, Jamie Lee Curtis, have kept up with each other throughout the last two decades.
“It’s kind of, you know, they always say, like, when you have a best friend or someone who you’re really close with…you cannot see them for years and years but when you see them again it’s like you never separated,” Lohan shared. “And I think just always women supporting women is such an incredible thing. It’s exciting.”
In 2022, Curtis told PEOPLE that there was “lots of good talk going on” about a sequel.
“What’s it like to get back into her head per se?” a GOOD MORNING AMERICA interviewer asked Lohan about her character, Anna Coleman.
“Ooh, well I can’t say much but I am taking guitar lessons and I do have a daughter in the movie,” Lohan shared.
Lohan is also a new mom in real life. Last year she gave birth to a baby boy, Luai.
“I’m so grateful for every moment of [motherhood],” she said. “Just every second, every morning, waking up and running to grab my son and just looking at him and when he looks me back in the eyes it’s just — I’m going to like get emotional — it’s just the most beautiful [thing]. I’m just so grateful every day.”
“You know, we always move so fast. So I feel like that’s the one thing I’ve learned over time and taking time for myself and really just cherishing every moment,” she said.
Lohan and Luai will both celebrate a birthday next month. Her son will turn 1, and Lohan will turn 38.
About Birthday celebrations, she said, “I mean, I always just want to be with family and I feel like you know as you get older, in life, the less is more. So yeah, just spending it together and for my son, I don’t know, we’re going to do something fun. I’m going to get him a bouncy house,” she laughed.
