Mark Wahlberg and Jonathan Roumie hope you’ll join them this Lent as they embark on a journey of prayer and fasting ahead of Easter Sunday.
“It is the beginning of this return to the Lord, returning our hearts to the Lord and fasting from the things that maybe don’t help us in our lives and feasting on the things that do,” Roumie said about Lent in an interview with Fox News. He and Wahlberg have partnered with the Catholic prayer app Hallow for the Pray40 challenge.
Wahlberg encouraged people to “stay prayed up” and have daily prayer time.

“I’m constantly pursuing a relationship with God. Every day I feel like, if I get on my hands and my knees first thing when I wake up, that the rest of the day is going to be easier — at least I can deal with all the things that are being thrown at me,” the actor explained.
“As you get older, things come from every direction, and life can become overwhelming at times, but expressing my gratitude and making sure that I’m wearing that armor to make sure that I’m doing what God has chosen for me to do, that’s something that I take very seriously,” Wahlberg added.
Hallow’s Pray40 challenge aims to “lead our hearts back to the Lord” and “to find peace in the world which is pretty chaotic right now, to take a few minutes out of our days and center ourselves with God,” Roumie said.
On Instagram on Ash Wednesday, Roumie wrote, “TODAY starts a season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. I invite you to go to church, receive ashes today and join me in Hallow’s Pray40 challenge. I’ll be praying for you this Lent, please pray for me!”
During the Pray40 challenge, Wahlberg leads “Fasting Fridays,” where he encourages participants to surrender everything to God.
“If we’re gonna pray every day this Lent, if we’re going to give our hearts and our minds and our souls and our bodies completely to the Lord, we first have to let go,” Wahlberg said in a video posted by Hallow. “We have to let go of everything that’s holding us down to this world. This world is not one of freedom.”
Whether or not you participate in Hallow’s Pray40 challenge, consider taking Roumie and Wahlberg’s encouragement to heart. Use this Lenten season as a time of daily prayer, fasting, Bible reading and meditation.
