New UNSUNG HERO Trailer Reveals For King + Country’s Origin

By Movieguide® Contributor

A trailer for UNSUNG HERO just dropped, giving fans a glimpse into For King + Country’s Joel and Luke Smallbone and their sister Rebecca St. James’ road to faith and fame.

“Joel, 39, stars in the movie as his own father David Smallbone, who moves to Nashville in 1991 with his seven children and wife [Helen] (Daisy Betts). As the family struggles to establish themselves in a new country, their daughter Rebecca St. James begins receiving attention for her impressive singing ability,” PEOPLE reported.

The trailer shows the family’s struggles to fit into their new life in America, both culturally and financially. Amid the struggles, David and Helen begin to notice their kids’ talents.

The Hollywood Reporter said, “The movie also follows the family’s mother, Helen Smallbone (Daisy Betts) as she uses her faith to hold the family of nine together by turning struggles into an adventure for her children. The title for the film comes from a For King + Country song of the same name that was dedicated to the parents of Joel and Luke Smallbone.”

Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate announced UNSUNG HERO, a new movie that tells the inspirational true story of the family behind Christian band for KING + COUNTRY…

“It dawned on us about 4 years ago that this story of immigrating from Australia to America & all the adventures & challenges we’ve walked through in between was a story that needed to be told–so we made a movie,” Luke Smallbone wrote on Instagram.

“It’s our hope that this story encourages you & your family as working on this project & reflecting has encouraged ours. Looking forward to sharing it with you next year,” he added.

PEOPLE added, “Joel, who has released five albums with for KING + COUNTRY, brings Unsung Hero to the big screen as a cowriter and codirector as well as its lead actor. He co-wrote and co-directed the movie with Richard Ramsey. Luke, 37, also serves as a producer on the film with Justin Tolley and Josh Walsh (JESUS REVOLUTION).”

Kirrilee Berger, an upcoming artist, plays the role of Rebecca in the movie. Her acting repertoire dominates her musical one, but in her new role, she gets to combine her two passions. She said previously, “I really just want to explore music a little more,” and UNSUNG HERO gives her that opportunity.

UNSUNG HERO will be released next spring. The official Instagram page for the movie posted on Tuesday, “Be sure to mark your calendars for what we’re calling “Family Day at the Theater” April 26, 2024!”
