HGTV’s Nicole Curtis revealed she enjoyed a “nostalgic” summer with her kids after putting REHAB ADDICT on hold so she didn’t miss out on this invaluable time.
“I got into this zone of nostalgia like I’ve never had before. Camped out with children and determined to do a summer like I was living in 1991-1994, but with money to not be at my 2.75 an hour job,” Curtis shared on Instagram. “Cruised our old cars, unlimited ice cream, smores for breakfast, campfires, jumping off the boat, days with grama Fay, hanging out with friends and just sticking to my ‘if it causes me angst-not doing it’ plan. I, also, broke my phone and didn’t get it fixed (until today).”

While the first two episodes of the REHAB ADDICT revival aired in June, Curtis made the decision to shelve the rest of the season until the fall after it took away too much time from her family.
“I made the executive decision to shelf the rest of our new shows until Fall. I appreciate your support and understanding for the late notice,” Curtis updated her fans at the beginning of July. “It’s just a lot of hours (my hours) to get a show on the air and we (my family + me) thought, why are we giving up a Summer when we have the ability to do this in the Fall? Thank you to the powers at be at HGTV that were receptive to our idea.”
“Without a doubt, I, truly, am beyond happy with this decision as I just spent the day with a phone that was dead and had no worries about it,” she added.
While Curtis remains passionate about her show and house renovations in general, she has long placed an emphasis on prioritizing time with her kids.
“The best advice is [everyone else] can wait. Your children can’t,” Curtis previously told Fox News. “When we were first shooting the show, my son was in sixth grade. And I wasn’t chasing fame…I was chasing the money. I was chasing that money hard because I wanted a better life for us.”
“I don’t care what it is. You cannot put a check in front of me that is going to take time away from my family,” she continued. “So I think that’s absolutely the thing I would tell my younger self is that, you know what — you’ll figure it out. You’ll figure it out. And I did. [But] If I could get those years back, I would trade everything in a heartbeat.”
It is amazing to see Curtis remain committed to these principles when the time came for her to choose her family over money, and her show’s continued success is a testament to her authentic personality — something that can’t be faked.
