Olympic Track Star: ‘My Bible Is My Lifeline’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone continues to share her faith, using her platform to point others to God.

In a new video shared by GQ Sports, the athlete revealed 10 things she can’t live without.

Among the candy, running shoes, skincare and jewelry she loves, the number one thing McLaughlin-Levrone needs in her life is her Bible.

“I’ve been working on memorizing Colossians 1:13 and 14, ‘He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved son in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins,'” the track star said.

“And this is my bigger MacArthur Study Bible that I love,” she continued. “It has not only the text, but on the bottom, it has descriptions that help you have a deeper understanding of what you’re reading.

“Being able to dive deeper into God’s word wherever I am, with whoever I’m with, it’s just such a crucial part of my life and my daily process,” McLaughlin-Levrone concluded. “So my Bible is my lifeline and I just got this mini one because it fits in any purse, any bag, anything like that. I’m already starting to mark it up and everything.”

The track star made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics where she beat her own 400-meter hurdle world record with a 50.37 seconds race. She earned a second Paris gold for the women’s 4×400 meter relay.

“It never ceases to amaze me how powerful He is to help those who trust in Him overcome the battles within,” she posted. “His word is sufficient, His promises hold true, and all the glory belongs to Him. 🙏🏽🙌🏽❤️ At the end of the day it is FAR beyond gold.”

After her historic Olympic run in Paris, McLaughlin-Levrone also expressed her gratitude to those who helped her achieve her childhood dreams:

This post is dedicated to my team.
My people.
The people who stood with me through it all.
All the sweat, blood, tears.
The days that almost killed me,
And the ones I killed.
Every detail.
Everyone did their part.
Executed their role.
Not one variable overlooked.
That’s what it takes to get here.
That’s what it will take to stay here.
Literally could not do it without them.
It takes a village.
I love you all!
We did it. ❤️

To all those not pictured, we love you!

McLaughlin-Levrone also took to Instagram to share how her faith helped her in such a time as this.

Movieguide® reported:

“What an honor, a blessing, and a privilege. I never want to take these moments for granted. In a week where my faith was tried, my peace wavered, and the weight of the world began to descend, God was beyond gracious,” she posted on Instagram.

“It’s always hard preparing for one moment you may or may not get back,” she continued. “In my mind what kept repeating were the words ‘Trust in Jesus.’ I didn’t know what the outcome would be, but I did know He was who I wanted to lead me through the journey. What an amazing journey it was!

“It never ceases to amaze me how powerful He is to help those who trust in Him overcome the battles within,” she added. “His word is sufficient, His promises hold true, and all the glory belongs to Him. At the end of the day it is FAR beyond gold. Once again, I am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to represent my country on the world’s biggest stage. What a blessing.”
