Netflix’s latest venture into gaming hopes to draw the youngest of fans as Peppa Pig squeals her way into a new kids’ game.
“After sharing these refined focus areas only a couple of months ago, the ‘World of Peppa Pig’ releasing today is our first step towards building this all-in-one destination, starting with this incredibly popular preschool IP,” said Netflix’s GM of games Lisa Burgess. The “World of Peppa Pig” will feature mini games, coloring, puzzles and interactive activities.
The games are based off the PEPPA PIG TV series, which just dropped Season 7 on Netflix.
“Taking lessons learned from our film and series teams, we’re starting by aligning with what kids already know and love,” Burgess explained. “That means leading with big, familiar worlds — characters they already watch, toys they already play with, games they already love — and/or IP that has a connection to Netflix.”
She added, “With PEPPA PIG in particular, it’s been an iconic British preschool series for more than 20 years. So when we thought about where to start our journey into kids games, Peppa was at the top of our list.”
In a streaming climate where platforms will seemingly find any reason to raise prices, Netflix, surprisingly, doesn’t charge extra to access its games, saying they “add value” to memberships.
“Because Netflix already offers a single, inclusive membership that many families are already paying for, we remove the barrier to entry, add value to existing memberships, and can reach a much broader audience,” Burgess explained. “Bringing the World of Peppa Pig game to Netflix alongside Season 7 of the series is exactly the kind of value we want to bring to our members. With their existing Netflix memberships, they watch and play in their favorite worlds.”
The Netflix Games Instagram account shared a preview of the new Peppa Pig mobile game, highlighting just a few of the fun “games, activities and puzzles” that young fans will love. Full episodes are also available.
Parents should be aware that a previous episode of PEPPA PIG does feature an openly same-sex couple. Whether or not these characters will be in the game is unknown, but for parents planning to let their kids play, this is something to monitor just in case.
The new children’s games on Netflix is a positive step toward making screen time more education and mentally stimulating, but it should still be used with parental oversight and guidance.
