Orlando Magic Guard Leans on God’s ‘Love’ for Epic Second-Half Comeback

By Movieguide® Contributor

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs reflected on how God’s love helped him secure his team’s huge win over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

“I really just like to give all the credit, not only to my family, my teammates who hold me down, who love me regardless of performance but to my Lord and Savior,” Suggs told the media. “I went in at halftime, and I listened to Kirk Franklin’s ‘He Loves Me.’ Jesus loves me. Right, wrong, indifferent, He constantly loves me and constantly has faith in me, and I tried to lean on that in the second half. Come out here and play free, smile, lift my teammates up, you know, rather than be so indulged in my own performance, and, you know, good things follow.”

Suggs had a slow start to the game on Sunday and knew his mind just wasn’t in the right place.

After he listened to Franklin’s song and took a few minutes to slow down, Suggs reemerged in the second half a new player.

Per CBS Sports, “Jalen Suggs scored 14 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter on Sunday night and the Orlando Magic beat the Phoenix Suns 115-110 to remain the NBA’s only team unbeaten at home this season.”

Suggs often uses his social media to tell his fans about his faith.

In a post from last week, the athlete shared several photos that included basketball pics, quotes and friends.

He captioned it with Romans 12:12, which reads, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

“Enjoying this beautiful life I’ve been given,” Suggs added.

In another post, Suggs shared Psalms 3:3, which says, “But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”

The Magic are back on the court against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 19.
