Patricia Heaton opened up about her personal encounter with God and what it taught her about our relationship with Him.

“Even if God threw me into the pit of hell, He is worthy of my adoration just because of who He is, not even any relationship to me, but just because of who He is,” she said in a video for EWTN Media. “So I started thanking Him for who He is, but I had this ‘woo-woo’ kind of  — I don’t want to say it was out-of-body. It’s as if my spirit expanded out into the room and that I was sort of in His presence, and I couldn’t hold it.”

Heaton described feeling His presence, as well as it “woosh”ing out of her grasp.

“And I thought, ‘What is that?…Okay, I’ll just keep thanking Him,’” she continued. “I was trying to hold it and I couldn’t hold it. It was too much.”

Heaton said, “I thought, ‘This is what our relationship is supposed to be.’ We’re supposed to be in that kind of relationship and communication with God.”

The EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND actress is one of many stars who are taking part in the upcoming “America Reads the Bible” event, taking place in April.

“Just as Ezra read the Word aloud to the people of Israel (Nehemiah 8:1–3), awakening revival and repentance, inspiring them to rebuild the temple, and working with Nehemiah to mobilize the people to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, America Reads the Bible is a sacred opportunity to call our nation back to its spiritual foundations,” a description of the event on its website reads

The description continues, “Through a public, continuous reading of the entire Bible in our nation’s capital by our national leaders from all spheres of influence, we believe God can spark revival in individual hearts and inspire Americans to carry the Word forward in their lives and communities into the next 250 years of our national story.”

Heaton knows the power of reading scripture; in 2022, the actress celebrated reading the Bible in its entirety for the first time.

“Some days were just revelatory. I saw things I’d never seen before,” she said in a social media video, joking. “And some days were kind of a slog…especially the Old Testament.”

Heaton continued, “It’s a great way to start your day,” telling her followers to “set that time aside to meditate on it and pray.”

“America Reads the Bible” will take place April 19-25 at Washington D.C.’s Museum of the Bible and will be livestreamed on Great American Pure Flix.
