Patricia Heaton’s Trip to Israel Taught Her This About the Old Testament

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actress Patricia Heaton experienced the Old Testament in a way she never has before during a trip to Israel.

In an Instagram post, Heaton, known for her role on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, reflected on her transformative experience.

“I’ve only read the Old Testament from beginning to end just a couple of years ago. And I tell you, parts of it are a slog, you know what I’m saying? Like it’s rough going,” she began. “And when you come here [Israel], it starts to make sense because you can start picturing things, and you start understanding the relationships.”

The video panned out to reveal the beautiful city of Jerusalem from afar.

She continued, “And then knowing that it’s not just a history book. The Bible has been misunderstood by many people for so long as to what it is. And so, I think it’s really incredible to be here in Israel. You’re kind of hit in the face with the reality. It’s super exciting actually to be around it.”

Fans appreciated Heaton’s take.

“So glad to see an actress have a love for the Bible. It’s a breath of fresh air!” one user said.

Another person added, “Patricia-you are a remarkable strong woman -not afraid to speak the truth! May you always be blessed. Thank you for being a light in the darkness. Thank you for supporting Jews and Israel!”

The actress has been vocal about her support for Israel, especially following the outbreak of war last year.

“We have to stand up for the Jewish people and for their right to exist, their right to be Jewish, and practice their faith,” Heaton told FOX & FRIENDS last month.

She’s put her words into action, launching the October 7 Coalition, a “movement of Christian shepherds, leaders, influencers, and neighbors, committed to public and private support and protection of the Jewish community, whom we recognize as brothers and sisters in our Judeo-Christian history and tradition, and our shared ancestors of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel.”

“I believe that we have an opportunity, because now we know,” Heaton said this summer. “Maybe back in 1939 people didn’t know what was going on. We know what’s going, and it is up to us as Christians to do something about it. The Jewish people are feeling very, very alone, and they need to know that we will stand by them.”
