Phillies player J.T. Realmuto gave thanks to God after his recent success on the field.

Realmuto hit a home run during Game 1 of the World Series against the Houston Astros, pointing towards heaven after passing home plate.

The catcher also thanked God during his post-game interview.

“I’m just so thankful for this opportunity,” Realmuto shared. “I thank God for being able to come out here and play this wonderful game for a living. I just can’t say enough about my teammates tonight. They were incredible. The bullpen was amazing. The way we fought back in that game after being down five to nothing – that’s just a Phillies win right there.”

Realmuto frequently talks about his faith — his Twitter bio reads “Following Jesus Christ and chasing the dream!”

Philadelphia Phillies’ J.T. Realmuto made MLB history after becoming the first-ever catcher to hit an inside-the-park home run in the playoffs.

Realmuto’s hit made it to the back wall of the stadium as he managed to beat the ball home to help lead his team to an 8-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

The win solidified the Phillies’ spot in their first National League Championship in 12 years.

“I’m not usually a guy that shows a lot of emotion, but when I slid into home there, I just couldn’t help myself,” he said regarding his celebration at home plate. “I was so excited. Excited for this city, excited for this team. It was just one of those moments that I’ll definitely remember forever.”

This year is the three-time All-Star’s first postseason. Realmuto previously expressed his thankfulness for God’s faithfulness to him throughout his life.

“It’s extremely important to me in life to know that the first thing I am … before I’m a father, before I’m a baseball player, the No. 1 thing I am is a follower of Christ,” he said on the “Faith on the Field Show,” podcast in 2020.

“Especially in today’s day, being able to fall back on that relationship with Christ, if that’s the center of your life, all these problems that you’re going through, all these worries that you have, always seem a lot smaller,” he added. “You can always have faith in Him that He’ll be there with you to get you through that.”
