DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE creator and producer Jae Huff created the movie because she couldn’t find content both her kids and she and her husband could enjoy.

“I think one of the reasons why we made this movie was because, especially coming out of COVID, my husband and I just saw the lack of content there was for kids…There just wasn’t any content that was safe for them to watch. It just seemed like more and more there was this agenda creep into the content that our younger ones were watching and a lot of the stuff that my older ones could potentially watch had other kidds of content in there that we weren’t comfortable with them watching…” Huff told Movieguide®. “And it was just getting harder and harder to find the content to watch with our family. And so, there was just a point in time where Andy and I just looked at each other and were like, I think we just have to go out and make it.”

Thankfully, they already had an IP established that they could jump off of to create the movie. DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE was already a successful TV show that had potential for a movie.

“When ‘Webtective’ Dot Conner’s father vanishes, she and her friends race shadowy villains to the cryptic clues he’s left behind, all while navigating their first week of high school,” a synopsis reads.

In an effort to make a movie for families, Huff and her husband focused on writing a story that kids and adults would like.

“I think we all want to be entertained, right? And there’s some who like dad jokes, right? Dads find dad jokes great. Kids find dad jokes pretty great too. And so, I mean, you can’t make a movie about all of it being a dad joke, but there is a lot of humor that can transcend from kids to adults…And so, it really is kind of like an art. Writing really is an art. And I think Andy did a great job of making it funny for kids and also adults enjoying that, you know, that chuckle.” Huff said.

The movie also incorporates a strong Christian element which makes it wonderful for families as parents can put it on and not have to worry about the messages their kids are receiving. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE is a well-crafted, lively mystery for families. It has plenty of action, neat puzzles to solve and a fresh style. The movie has a strong Christian worldview. Many scenes feature characters discussing Bible verses and the importance of faith. Also, the heroine uses Scripture to solve mysteries and relies on her faith in tough situations. She also shares safety tips, such as cautioning against opening online messages from people you don’t know. DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE has some brief action violence and a short bullying scene. MOVIEGUIDE® advises parental discretion for young children.

Those interested in DOT CONNER: WEBTECTIVE can enjoy it in theaters starting on Sept. 19.
