Rob Lowe Starts His Day With ‘Morning Prayers,’ ‘Gratitude List’

Actor Rob Lowe opened up about his morning routine.

“I do my morning prayers and my evening prayers, and I always start my day with a gratitude list of things I’m grateful for,” he said.

“And, you know, it’s…it’s all of it. Some things never change,” Lowe said of his gratitude list. “It’s, you know, my family, our health, my sobriety. And then I go into, you know, my dogs and the ability to do a job that I love. And I try to get the list going as long as I can. Some days it’s longer than others, some days it’s shorter than others. But I start every day with a gratitude list.”

Lowe also focuses on sleep, diet and his wife.

“I get tons of sleep,” Lowe said. “Like, an embarrassing amount. I don’t want people to think something is wrong with me. It’s a lot of sleep, not 12 hours. But if there’s ever 12 (hours) to be had, I’m taking it.”

When it comes to his diet, Lowe minimizes carbohydrates and focuses on protein. His diet has also helped him continue his sobriety.

“I haven’t had a drink in 33 years,” Lowe told USA TODAY. “That’s a huge thing, even beyond recovery. When you think about the calories and the bloat you’re missing. That just adds up. So that’s super helpful.”

He also prioritizes his wife, Sheryl Berkoff. The couple have been married for 31 years, and Lowe says she helps him survive Hollywood life.

“It’s sort of won and lost right there,” he expressed. “Sheryl was always and remains my best friend. No matter what. There are good days and bad days. But no matter what, you’ve chosen your best friend.”

“Listen, she may have saved my life, really,” he added. “I mean, she met me when I was at the end of my ’80s run of wild boy craziness, and she was worth changing my life for. And so I am really lucky that that happened to me…And just when I met her, I knew that if I could not make it with her, I definitely could not make it work with anyone else.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Lowe:

Actor Rob Lowe, who is celebrating 32 years of sobriety this May, said that he is most thankful for his family.

“I’m happy I lived the life that I lived because I have no regrets, but I was super ready to coach Little League, carve pumpkins on Halloween, read books and serve hot lunch on Wednesdays. I really, really loved every minute of it,” Lowe told PEOPLE in a recent interview. “Up until I turned 26, I spent all my time investing in my career. From 26 on, I’ve invested in me; my spirituality, my recovery, my marriage, my family. No one has a perfect life… but I’m grateful for all of it.”
