In an emotional episode of his podcast, Ryan Seacrest shared the final words that he shared with his father as his dad succumbed to a years-long battle with prostate cancer.

“He was in Atlanta, where we grew up. I was by his bedside over the last several days. I was by his bedside as he left us,” Seacrest shared. “My mother was by his bedside. My sister, we held his hand. We kissed his forehead. We watched every last moment with our father. It was the most difficult dichotomy and strange combination of feelings I’ve ever felt because of the difficulty and the toughness of seeing this happen.”

“In his last hours, as we just sat there, he weakly mumbled that he loved us. And I remember him saying — I can see him laying in the bed. I can see his mouth slowly moving to the words, ‘I love this family,’” Seacrest continued. “He looked over at me and he… The power of the contact of eyes and his eyes were barely open, but he looked over at me and he said, ‘Take care of your mom.’ And then he said to my sister and to Jimmy, ‘take care of Flora, my granddaughter,’ and then literally a few seconds later, he closed his eyes and he said, ‘I’ve got to go.’”

On Oct. 31, Seacrest shared that his father had passed away after a long battle with prostate cancer.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week. My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering. We are heartbroken,” Seacrest wrote on Instagram. “He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad you will life in our hearts forever. I love you.”

Seacrest’s father’s battle with prostate cancer brought about some of the most difficult times in the celebrity host’s life as he watched his father struggle with the disease, enter remission and unexpectedly turn downhill as the cancer returned.

“When you see a parent suffering and when you see them going through this and you don’t understand it yourself, you’re just listening to all the different doctors and trying to make sense of what they’re trying to suggest and do,” Seacrest previously said. “I didn’t want to miss trying to understand who these people were that were taking care of my father.”

Please keep Seacrest and his family in your prayers as they continue to process the death of their father and look to keep his legacy alive now that he has passed on.
