DUCK DYNASTY star Sadie Robertson Huff recently shared what God’s taught her through a life in the spotlight.

“If God has called me to the public life, then, Lord, help me do that. But also, I want my private life to be the thing that’s most important to me,” Huff said on Rich Wilkerson Jr.’s “Mature Me” podcast.

“God chose you because of you. What a freeing statement,” Wilkerson Jr. added. “It’s like when He picked you, when He called you, He knows everything about you — the good, the bad, the ugly — [and] in spite of all of those things, He wants his grace to shine through you.”

Huff also spoke to how difficult it can be to be in the public eye and know the “right thing to say” to “sound spiritual” but realize that what’s going on in your heart is very different.

“No one can catch it, no one else can, like, call it out on you, because people don’t see it, because you’re so good at acting, you’re so good at saying the right thing,” she said.

“I got to lead with authenticity. I got to lead with honesty and humility,” she continued, reflecting on her platform. “God is not, you know, calling us to be absolutely perfect people and lead in perfect ways. He is calling us to lead to the message of the cross.”

The “fear, pressure, and secret battles behind the scenes” all prepared Huff for God-given calling she lives out today.

But the reality is that “all of our calling is always on the other side of our fear,” Wilkerson Jr. said in the podcast. “Your comfort zone has everything but your calling, and it always requires us to trust in God.”

Replaying “what-ifs” can keep us in our comfort zones as we fear judgement from others, especially within the church.

“What if I actually did mess up, you know? What if, God forbid, I’d be a human and, like, what do I actually do one day? This is what’s gonna happen, and it kind of makes you afraid, because it’s like the Body’s supposed to have your back,” Huff said of the church’s response to sin. “We’re supposed to be able to confess our sins and be healed…this is supposed to be a safe place, a family where you go, ‘Hey, I’ve been struggling with this,’ and you’re not met with criticism and judgment; you’re actually met with love.”

Huff and her family first entered public life when DUCK DYNASTY began in 2012. Today, she’s still encouraging her fans to keep their eyes on Christ.

Earlier this month after a “hard” week, Huff posted a “highlight reel” but shared the reality behind it.

“So yes, here’s our highlight reel,” she wrote. “But it’s just the life to the full part. The other stuff was there this week, too. It was hard. It was scary. It was a lot. Yet, God was there, and I’ve seen the power of prayer, family, and the power of the Spirit in a new way. I’m very grateful for these pictures and these moments with my family after walking through it all with them ❤️”

As Huff continues to spur on her fans to pursue God, it’s encouraging to know that she’s on the journey right along with us.
