US Open champion Scottie Scheffler withdrew his name from the Houston Open on Thursday as he and his wife, Meredith, prepare to welcome their second child.
The Golf Channel reported that the “reason [for his withdrawal] wasn’t immediately provided by the PGA Tour,” though it was later confirmed “that the reason was not injury-related but rather the imminent birth of Scheffler’s second child.”
Though Scheffler is out of the Houston Open, he is expected to make his return to the golf course at The Master on April 9.
Last year, he admitted to the media that golf doesn’t satisfy.

“This is not a fulfilling life,” Scheffler told ESPN. “It’s fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it’s not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.”
He has won two Masters, three Majors, including a PGA Championship, and boasts 16 career wins since beginning his professional career. But even with the success, Scheffler sometimes wonders why he continues to play.
“That’s something that I wrestle with on a daily basis,” the golfer said. “It’s like showing up at the Masters every year; it’s like why do I want to win this golf tournament so badly? Why do I want to win the Open Championship so badly? I don’t know because, if I win, it’s going to be awesome for two minutes.”
“Is it great to be able to win tournaments and to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf? Yeah, it brings tears to my eyes just to think about it because I’ve literally worked my entire life to be good at this sport,” he continued. “To have that kind of sense of accomplishment, I think, is a pretty cool feeling. To get to live out your dreams is very special, but at the end of the day, I’m not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers. I’m not out here to inspire someone to be the best player in the world, because what’s the point?”
What truly matters to Scheffler is his faith in Christ and his wife and children.
Scheffler often brings Meredith, and their son, Bennett, on tour with him and to several major events throughout the year.
One time, Bennett joined his dad for a “post-round autograph session.”
“He wants to be an adult. He doesn’t know that he’s a baby,” Scheffler said of Bennett.
We applaud Scheffler for putting his family first and pray that he, Meredith, Bennett and their new addition can enjoy some family time before he jumps back into golf.
