Shane & Shane Encourage Worship Leaders to Focus on Simplicity: ‘The Pressure’s Off’

Shane Barnard and Shane Everett of the Christian band Shane & Shane are encouraging worship leaders to focus on simplicity in a culture centered around performance and appearance.

“You can let the pressure just go away because, at the end of the day, it is completely up to God,” Barnard encouraged during an interview with The Christian Post. “At our worst, He does His best. When the power goes off, there’s nothing there but people and the Holy Spirit of God.”

“In the fast-paced, secularized, Hollywood feel of, ‘I need to do it like that church,’ just let that go away,” he continued. “Know if you’re in God’s family, you have everything you need. That’s straight from the Scripture: ‘He will satisfy your heart.’ No approval from man or congregation will satisfy your heart. Show up, do the best you can, and then be with your family. The pressure’s off. You’re free in Jesus…don’t be entangled by the pressures of pleasing man.”

To help worship leaders deepen their ministry, Barnard and Everett created The Worship Initiative.

“We believe that as the Bride is healthy and satisfied and equipped by the Spirit, then it’s going to be doing what the Bride has always done, and that’s point to Jesus,” Everett explained. “We want people pointed to Jesus because He’s going to gather all of His kids, and He’s going to come back. We’re saying, ‘Hey, let’s get this party started. Let’s go out and share the good news of Christ.’ We want the church to be healthy. So we’re going to sit over here and we’re going to make content and resources for the Church to believe who they are in Him and know He’s put them here for a purpose, and that purpose is to bring the Kingdom of God back.”

“We exist to encourage you,” Barnard added. “We have a lot of different corners on our site. We have a big team that works all day long just to create resources and community for you, wherever you’re at.”

Shane & Shane have been producing music since the early 2000s. “Over 16 albums, they intertwined acoustic guitar melodies with Scripture, providing believers with a unique way to interact with God’s word,” Word by Word reported.

Their experience in creating meaningful worship music inspires them to help the next generation of worship leaders.

“The Worship Initiative is helping to grow the next generation of worship leaders and faith-based musicians seeking to grow in their craft and deepen in their walk with the Lord,” The Christian Beat reported. It “provides users access to hundreds of chord charts of the best worship songs in multiple keys, music training videos, exclusive Bible study devotionals with leading scholars and much more, as led by Shane & Shane.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Shane & Shane:

Worship duo Shane & Shane are back with a new album, Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs Vol. 1, after a six-year hiatus.

Shane Bernard and Shane Everertt have been making music together for over two decades, working with artists like Michael W. Smith, David Crowder and Keith and Kristyn Getty to create well-loved worship songs. During their hiatus, the pair launched an online worship resource, The Worship Initiative.

Their new album was inspired by Colossians 3:16 – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

One of the main themes of the album is how God is our greatest gift.
