Should Christians Celebrate Halloween? Influencer Is Changing Her Tune …

Social media figure Christina A. Smallwood says her tune has changed about celebrating Halloween.

“This is actually the first year that Josh [her husband] and I have felt convicted about Halloween,” she said in a recent Instagram video. “In years past, whenever someone was like, ‘Ooh, I’m a Christian, I don’t celebrate Halloween,’ we would be like, ‘It’s really the attitude of your heart, it’s what you make of it, it’s harmless…’ and I’m just feeling more convicted about it.”

Smallwood said that, during a meeting with her small group, everyone said they weren’t planning on celebrating Halloween and were feeling more “convicted” about it than ever before.

She also shared what she plans on doing on Halloween.

“Here’s what I wanna do — I want to get a big, inflatable Jesus and shine lights on it,” Smallwood said. “Wouldn’t that be cool?…instead of something scary. But I guess that would be scary to all the other [decorations] on the street, wouldn’t it?”

Smallwood also said she would be handing out small figurines of Jesus to the trick-or-treaters in her neighborhood.

“We know how mighty Jesus is, and I’m not about to let any more fear dictate any part of my life,” she finished.

In an op-ed for The Christian Post, Jamie Morgan, a pastor at Life Church, explained why she doesn’t celebrate the holiday.

“God is a God of life, but Halloween focuses on death. Should I celebrate a holiday where people decorate their front yards with tombstones?” she wrote. “Setting aside a day to celebrate evil, darkness, witchcraft, fear, death and the demonic brings disdain to God. Period.”

Morgan continued, “As a pastor, after observing firsthand the amount of destruction that the enemy brings into peoples’ lives when they give him a foothold, I am even more convinced I made the right decision to close the door to the enemy and on this evil holiday.”

“Stop justifying why it is fine to celebrate this demonic, worldly, evil holiday,” she concluded. “There are no muddled lines or gray areas about it. A committed follower of Jesus Christ should not celebrate Halloween.”

Christian artist Forrest Frank has also shared his thoughts on Halloween, writing on Instagram, “I have no fear because we are covered in the blood of Jesus…but i’m not messing around with that!! Not sure where we stand with other holidays, so feel free to share info…but this one feels blatantly dark.”

As Halloween approaches, parents should be mindful of what they are exposing their children to, and focus on faith, rather than fear.
