SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Coming to Netflix

By Movieguide® Contributor

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE will be available on Netflix starting October 31.

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE picks up where the Oscar-winning INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE ended, as Miles Morales travels through the multi-verse and teams up with a variety of Spider-People to defeat a new supervillain named The Spot.

The movie performed well at the box office after its release in May, thanks to its focus on family values. It out-earned the first movie in the franchise during its first two weeks in theaters. In all, it brought in $630 million through its global release, making it the sixth highest-grossing movie this year. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is a creative, exciting, funny animated superhero movie. It has several unexpected twists that add to the viewer’s enjoyment. Happily, ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE also has a strong pro-family theme. For example, there are heartfelt scenes of love and reconciliation between Miles and his parents and between a Spider-Woman character and her father. Also, a Spider-Man from another universe and his wife have a new baby. Finally, an early image shows a family holding hands and praying together. That said, SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE has lots of PG action violence and brief foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

A third movie in the franchise – BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE – has already begun production. However, the actors’ strike has paused filming. It was originally slated to release in March 2024, but with the months-long hiatus, its release date is now undetermined. Fans, however, can still expect to receive the movie sometime next year.

Movieguide® previously reported on ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’s success:

After a spot at the top of box office charts, Sony’s SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE grossed over $500 million in global sales.

The movie earned $290.4 million domestically and $215.9 million internationally, which brings it to a global total of $506.3 million.

“The Top 5 international box office markets for Across the Spider-Verse to date are China at $42.5M, followed by the UK with $26.1M, Mexico with $24.2M, Australia with $15M and Brazil at $10.4M,” Deadline reports. Another source adds that the movie surpassed “the entire run of its 2018 predecessor, “INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE” ($384 million), after just 12 days of release.”

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE faces fierce competition from THE FLASH, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS and Pixar’s ELEMENTAL. Yet its strong values continue to attract audiences.
