SPY KIDS Actress Shows There’s Fullness of Life in Committing To Jesus

By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer

Families, especially children, loved the SPY KIDS movies when they released in the early 2000’s. What could be better than watching Carmen and Juni continually rescue their parents and protect the world from villainy? Well, for one star, Jesus was better.

Alexa PenaVega (then, Alexa Vega) played Carmen, the first-born Cortez child, in SPY KIDS. Later, she ventured into other movies like SLEEPOVER with Steve Carrell and FROM PRADA TO NADA and the Hallmark projects DESTINATION WEDDING and ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS. Although Alexa started her acting career in the early 90’s, she had this innate feeling that she needed to “dive” into something deeper: her faith.

Vega elaborates on her faith journey, “I was raised in a home that had Christian values, but we never really went to church. The Christian values were taught, and I think that’s why I ended up going to it later on in my life, but we never went to church. So, when I was sixteen, I started thinking, ‘You know what? I want to start going to church. I want to seek this out more.’” She continued discussed her persistence purist of God, “so I would drive myself to church and to Bible study, but it wasn’t something I was completely committed to. I knew I loved Jesus, and I knew I had faith, but I didn’t truly understand. It was very surface. And, I hadn’t really had the chance to dive in and go, ‘Okay, what is this all really about?’”

Amidst her search, Vega met and later married her husband, Carlos PenaVega of Nickelodeons’ BIG TIME RUSH in 2014. Upon meeting, Alexa recalls how God put them on the same path as they were searching for a deeper foundation for their faith. “We were both kind of on that journey together. And, once you do that, your life completely changes.”

Alexa often takes to her social media accounts to display God’s blessings in her life, including her adorable son, named Ocean King,

Alexa highlights the fullness of life she found in Christ, “I think it’s scary for people because they’re afraid they’re missing out on so much or like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t want to give up all these things.’” She continues, noting the freedom in commitment, “when you realize what you’re missing, by kind of living this other lifestyle, there’s nothing more fulfilling than making that decision to fully commit.”

Additionally, Alexa enjoys participating in faith-based projects. In 2015, the actress starred in DO YOU BELIEVE from the same writers of GOD’S NOT DEAD. “I love faith-based films…. My husband and I said that what we want to do is to take our faith and make worldly content, but with the morals and values of what Christianity is about.” Currently Alexa and her spouse are working on a joint project called PICTURE PERFECT, which is in pre-production.

The PenaVegas also double as entrepreneurs and are celebrating the two- year anniversary of their clothing brand “Cross Your Heart” where their mission is to “spread Love, Grace and Light across the globe.”
