Tara-Leigh Cobble Keeps Christ First as The Bible Recap Changes Lives
By Movieguide® Contributor
Tara-Leigh Cobble discussed the amazing success of her project, The Bible Recap, and the way that she keeps herself rooted while impacting the lives of hundreds of millions of people.
“The most recent numbers that I heard, which may or may not be out of date, the last I heard, we had something in the range of 350 million downloads in a little over five years,” Cobble told Carey Nieuwhof. “And we launched our YouTube January of last year, and we did the math on, I don’t remember how many it was, but I divided it by the number of hours in a year, and I was like, we’ve been listened to something like 230 years of listening.”
“Those numbers represent people. Like, those aren’t just random numbers, it’s not just hours and downloads, it’s souls and individuals and their stories and those are people who want to read the Bible,” she added. “I’m not out there talking about makeup, you know, these are people who want to read the Bible, who want to engage with the living God and that is so crazy to me.”
Amid her insane success, Cobble has maintained a humble attitude. While that is mostly due to the work of the Holy Spirit, Cobble also believes a major factor is the people that she has surrounded herself with. She has created a business where, although she is the leader, she does not always get her way and she listens to those who work for her.
“It really helps me that I have an incredible team around me who not only knows and loves me, but a lot of them are my friends,” Cobble explained. “It’s so good to surround myself with people who have great ideas, who are really talented, who have really strong character and who have the mission as the main thing.”
“We’re on a mission to help people read, understand and love God’s word,” she continued. “Everything that we do is to help people read, understand and love God’s word, and that matters more to [my team] than, you know, being a ‘yes man’ to me.”
As she continues to grow her reach and help even more people connect with Christ, Cobble’s foundation is in the Lord and allows her heart to continue to be shaped by Him.
“One of the things He does is remind us who we are, and so that course correction that comes when you walk with the Holy Spirit, He’s doing that in me. He’s reminding me of my own depravity and not in a way that shames me but in a way that redirects me, reminds me if my identity in Christ,” she said. “He’s like, ‘Hey this thing that you’re doing, that’s not who you are. Let’s go do something different. Here, I’ll help,’ you know.”
It is amazing to see how the Lord is using Cobble’s work to impact hundreds of millions of lives, and her desire to keep Him at the center rather than stroking her own ego.
