Texans DE Says God Did ‘Something Extraordinary’ During Sunday Game

By Movieguide® Contributor

Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. is giving glory to God.

“I just want to start saying God is so good. Very extraordinary,” he said after the Texans victory over the Bills.

Anderson recalled he looked over at one of his teammates before the game and said, “‘God is going to do something extraordinary, man’…That is exactly what He did today. I got to give all praise to Him.”

The Texans triumphed over the Bills 23-20 in the last two seconds of the game on Oct. 6 after Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 59-yard field goal.

“First and foremost, just want to give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Texans QB CJ Stroud said of the win and Fairbairn’s kick. “What I’m thinking, man, just take care of the football and really just give him a give him a shot.”

Anderson wasn’t “nervous at all” for Fairbairn in that moment.

“That was that exact moment I tapped Mario on the shoulder and said, ‘Watch, bro, God’s going to do something extraordinary.’ And he made it, and I already knew,” he explained.

Along with standing up for his faith, Anderson also makes an impact on his community off the field. In July, he hosted a football camp for young aspiring athletes, and it was an experience that touched his heart.

“You never truly realize the impact you make until you witness it firsthand,” he wrote on his social media. “A heartfelt thank you to every camper who participated—you are the reason I do this every day. To the families—parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles—your support is invaluable. And to the dedicated coaches, volunteers, staff, and sponsors your hard work and dedication is the backbone of our success. Together, we’re turning Small Town dreams into Big Realities. Here’s to growing bigger and better every year!”

Movieguide® previously reported on Anderson:

Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson has already established himself as one of the best defenders in the league after only one season, but rather than focus on his success, he’s keeping his eyes on Christ.

“My focus is just less on what everybody has to say and more on God. I think my biggest thing is knowing that, like I always tell y’all, my approval comes from Him,” Anderson told reporters as his team entered preseason training. “Ultimately, everything that I achieve in this lifetime, I’m putting Him first for it, because He’s the reason why I’m here.”

“I think that’s the difference,” he continued. “Like, this year I’m like, ‘God, whether it’s a good game or bad game — anything — You’re gonna get the praise and the glory for it. I’m gonna let You use me however You want to use me each game.’ I just want to be a servant, be a leader and be a blessing to my teammates and help them out in any type of way. So that’s my whole thing coming into this year. It’s like, ‘God, however You want to use me, I just want to be a blessing to this team.’”
