THE CHOSEN’s Catherine Lidstone Wants Families to See FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS
By Movieguide® Contributor
Catherine Lidstone explained why families should go see her new Easter movie FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS.
“It’s such a beautiful family film. Basically, you’re meeting a modern family, which is myself and Yoshi Barrigas [who] play a married couple with two children, who are going through a rough patch because he’s got a lot of demands on his time from work,” Lidstone told Movieguide®’s Cheryl Crisp. “That’s removing him from the home, and the kids are feeling the effect of that.”
“My character, Juliana Burdon, as the mother wants to make sure that her children are being taken care of emotionally and spiritually as well as financially, so her husband is doing an amazing job for them but she wants to make sure that there’s not a divide or a rift that starts to form,” she continued. “I think that tension is very relatable, so many families go through that.”
“So what you get to witness throughout the course of the film is they have this family trip, they’ve got it planned for Easter. It’s just another thing on this list that they have to worry about, but when they get there, the grandfather and grandmother figures really open up the hearts and minds of the family who’s been really kind of stuck in their own rut for quite some time with the stories of the Gospel and spreading the tradition down to the grandchildren,” she added.
The movie does an amazing job of combining the modern with the archaic, leaving both feeling applicable and relatable to today’s struggles. Lidstone appreciates the movie’s ability to bring Jesus’s story to life over 2,000 years later.
“The beautiful part about how they’ve chosen to tell the Gospel story is that you’re getting these 2,000-year-old flashbacks and there’s a musical aspect to it so there’s song and there’s a songbook that’s originally written for this film and our songwriters and producers have won Grammys for their work before, so they’re very talented. And the way they tell this story and the singers they’ve got on board to tell it are just so, so beautiful to watch,” Lidstone explained.
While many movies tell the story of Jesus’ final days, this one stands out because it does so with a focus on being family-friendly.
“You’re able to see the story in a way that’s accessible to all ages,” Lidstone said. “We just got approved for all ages, so even in some episodes of THE CHOSEN that I’ve been privileged to be on, I would hesitate to bring, you know, my niece and nephew to see it, but for this film, I think anyone in the family can go and see it.”
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
The first half of FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS is a little slow. However, the second half nicely builds into a moving, inspiring ending that promotes repentance, forgiveness and living out one’s Christian faith. Eventually, Joseph realizes he needs to live out his Christian faith by not neglecting his wife and children. A scene between Jesus and Peter provides a beautiful counterpoint to that message. FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS has three songs that stand out above the rest. Two of them seem Oscar-worthy to MOVIEGUIDE®.
FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS is available to watch in select theaters now.
