The Holy Spirit Rescued This AMERICAN IDOL Alum from Depression

AMERICAN IDOL alum Tasha Layton recently shared her testimony about depression on Instagram.

“We’re not stuck forever where we are,” Layton shared. “We have a hope and a future. That’s one of my favorite things about God. He doesn’t leave us where we are.”

“So then what’s it going to take for us to find freedom from depression and anxiety? Well, first, we got to invite the Holy Spirit to guide us. Scripture says that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. It also says to take every thought captive and that the enemy is the father of lies.”

“I was sitting on a counselor’s couch at 30 years old, finally figuring out that the source of my depression was believing lies,” she continued. “The enemy hooked me when I was young into believing that I wasn’t good, or I wasn’t good enough, or that maybe God was withholding his best because of that. So invite the Holy Spirit to walk with you on this journey, to reveal to you what the sources might be of your depression and anxiety, and then just be patient.”

The “Worship Through It” singer continued in her caption, adding that hope and a future is possible for anyone.

“The enemy works through lies, keeping us stuck in fear and hopelessness, but truth sets us free. It won’t always happen overnight — healing takes time. But step by step, day by day, breakthrough will come. We are not alone in the battle, and we don’t have to carry it alone. God is faithful, and He is with us in the waiting!”

“Lord, I just pray for anyone feeling heavy today,” she said. “Remind them that they are not alone. Fill them with Your peace, wrap them in Your love, and give them the strength to keep going. Let them feel Your presence right in the middle of it all. Amen. 🤍”

Last month, Layton announced her first live worship album, Worship Through It Live. The album was recorded at Hope UC in Tennsesee and features nine tracks. It comes out on March 7.

“Most people know me as a CCM artist, or they know some of my songs because they’re on the radio, but I’ve been a worship leader just about my whole life,” Layton said. “When I started releasing music, I was just singing what was on my heart. Some of what came out wasn’t necessarily congregational-type songs, but I believed I was to release them. A worship project feels natural to me and falls in line with who I’ve always been, so it’s special to me that I’m getting to release it.”

Yesterday, Layton embarked on an eight-city tour with Lysa Terkeurst, speaker and author of Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than and Lonely and Forgiving What You Can’t Forget. The duo will be on tour until March 9.

“I love Lysa so much, so I was thrilled to get the invite to tour with her,” Layton said when the tour was announced. “I can’t wait to see what the Lord does this coming spring.”
