THE ROOKIE’s eight season just kicked off with a can’t-miss twist: a new location in Prague, Czech Republic, an exciting and rare set for the series.
“It felt different. It was amazing. We had an incredible time,” actress Jenna Dewan told PEOPLE of filming in a new country. “You feel like you are back in time. It just felt so special. It felt like we were in the midst of a film, an action film. It was so cool.”
“It felt like a James Bond movie,” co-star Nathan Fillion added. “It really did. I wasn’t wearing a cop uniform — I was wearing a suit. I felt very fancy. And we’re walking in these incredible squares and beside these beautiful rivers.”
Fillion and Dewan play on-screen husband and wife John Nolan and Bailey Nune, and the location gave the couple a “second honeymoon.”

Dewan said that the new season will have “lots of unexpected yet bonding adrenaline.”
She added, “I always say I think it is the blending of tones that really works well because we give strong action. There’s a lot of suspense and scare almost, but there’s so much comedy, and there’s a lot of banter and there’s the romance.”
A brief synopsis of THE ROOKIE from ABC reads “John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD, uses his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior.”
In a previous interview posted to Instagram, Fillion shared more about Season 8.
“More so than being excited for Nolan, I’m excited for me,” he said. “THE ROOKIE is the best job l’ve ever had. I’m so thrilled to be a part of the community that makes our show, and I can’t wait to be working together with them all again.”

Fillion also shared why he thinks viewers are still “invested” after 8 seasons.
“I think it’s about balance, and about the characters,” he reflected. “The show is many things — light, fun, dramatic, high stakes, romantic, you could go on… there’s so much to be enjoyed. I especially love hearing that people watch together. That it starts conversations and gives families and friends time to spend with each other.”
THE ROOKIE premiered on Jan. 6 on ABC and will air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET, with streaming available on Hulu the next day. Stay tuned to see what other adventures take place in this exciting new season.
