Singer, songwriter and record producer Tommee Profitt just released a bold album about Christ’s resurrection.
“I needed to take old Easter hymns about the cross and the blood and wildly reimagine them and just give them kind of just a new, just, you know, a new life, a new facelift, if you will,” he said.
“There’s nothing about the resurrection that should be whispered. It should be loud. It should be shouted,” he said.
The 19-track album, called The Resurrection of a King, includes songs like “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “Just As I Am.” It features artists CeCe Winans, Crowder, Jenn Johnson, Ben Fuller, Jeremy Rosado, Jon Reddick and more.
“Cece Winans is a gift to this album, and a gift to the world,” Profitt said on Instagram. “She brings more than just a great vocal performance when she sings…she brings Holy Authority. So honored and grateful for her lending her heart, her spirit and her talents to this project.”

In partnership with K-Love, Profitt also released a two-hour documentary with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The project is a sequel to his Christmas album, The Birth of a King.
“I wanted it to be a cinematic soundtrack for the most powerful story in history. I mean, it deserves that LORD OF THE RINGS epic style music,” he said of the Easter album.
“Man, it was so fun, unexpected,” Profitt added. “I didn’t plan on doing this album last year and it just kind of fell on my lap.”
It was an emotional ride for Profitt.
“Every song sounds like the moment He walks out of the tomb,” he added. “Like if you were there and that was scored in a movie, what would that sound like.”
“I hope that the feelings that I had in the process is translated into [listeners],” he said. “I just feel like there’s something God wants to do with this album and make himself more real to the listener maybe than they would have.”
Profitt hopes that people find God through the album.
He said of the documentary last week, “The 2-Hour Documentary of THE RESURRECTION OF A KING is now available on KLOVE ON DEMAND, including interviews with each artist, stories behind the songs, behind the scenes, and performances of the entire album. This is one of the best ways to experience this project! They did an absolute phenomenal job on this and I’m so excited to share it with you!”
