These 3 Things Inspire GAF’s Christmas Movies

These 3 Things Inspire GAF’s Christmas Movies

By Movieguide® Contributor

Families love getting cozy during the holiday season and watching some wholesome, feel-good Christmas movies. And few people understand this better than Great American Family CEO Bill Abbott.

“People love Christmas. They love the celebration of the season, the traditions, the music, everything about Christmas — people love,” Abbott told Fox News Digital.

The CEO realizes that some people may consider holiday movies “cheesy,” but Great American Family strives to make quality Christmas films.

“I think that the genre has gotten a bad name in some parts over the years. You know, the cheesy Christmas movie that’s harpooned on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and is really in some circles still produced. But that’s a thing of the past from our point of view. We take great pains in the storytelling, in the character development and the locations and the music and the wardrobe and all the things that make it feel like a Christmas experience. And the talent then is just the icing on the cake and certainly is a key driver,” he explained.

He continued, “But that is what really gives the genre life and what we are trying to do with our content — just always be that quality choice that celebrates faith, family and country.”

Each Christmas season, GAF’s special holiday lineup boasts a slate of original movies starring fan favorites.

Candace Cameron Bure and Eric Johnson take a wintery road trip in A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELLED. Trevor Donovan, Jen Lilley, Jillian Murray, Laura Osnes, Julia Reilly, Jesse Hutch and Gladys Knight make up a modern version of The Little Women in A LITTLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS. Husband and wife duo Alexa and Carlos PenaVega team up for GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS.”

Candace Cameron Bure, GAF’s chief creative officer and star, recently opened up about why she loves making holiday movies.

“To share the Gospel within the movies and remind people of the hope of Jesus, that’s what has been inspiring for me, and I feel like it’s given me a new energy going into continuing to make Christmas movies, not only as an actor but also other Christmas movies I produce,” she told the Christian Post. “Sharing that within the stories is really powerful for me and important in my journey of faith and as a creative in the entertainment industry.”

Her latest Christmas movie, HOME SWEET CHRISTMAS with Cameron Mathison, just premiered on Dec. 1.

“Love isn’t just a gift—it’s a new beginning, perfectly designed by God’s divine plan,” GAF said of the movie on Instagram. It will be available to stream starting Dec. 5.
