Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ayo Dosunmu starts his pregame routine by reading his Bible.
“Getting here early,” Dosunmu said of his pregame routine, per Relevant Magazine. “Getting a great stretch in, reading my Bible before the game, talking to my grandparents, talking to my dad, talking to my family, talking to my brother.”
The media wanted his pregame details after Dosunmu scored a career-high 43 points off the bench in the Timberwolves’ Game 4 win against the Denver Nuggets.

“I know it sounds cliché, but I can’t and won’t take this moment for granted,” the athlete said after he hit the career high, per CBS News, “because I understand how long and how hard it is to get here.”
“I’m blessed,” he added, according to Relevant. “I give all the credit to Jesus Christ.”
In February, Dosunmu was dropped by the Chicago Bulls. He wrote a heartfelt letter to Chicago and reflected what it meant to play for the team.
“You’ll always be my first love. From the halls of Beasley and MPHS to the tunnels of the United Center, you’ve been with me every step of the way,” the guard began. “Thanks to my teammates, #BullsNation, the coaching staff and admin team, media and UC staff for an unforgettable five years! Although my time in a Bulls uniform may have come to an end, that’s not the story; the story (and blessing) is that it happened. My heartfelt thanks to the Bulls front office for making it so.”
Dosunmu then thanked God for the opportunity to play for a great organization.
“As I walk confidently through this new door God has opened, rest assured that I’ll never forget where I came from-you can take the kid out of Chicago, but never Chicago out the kid!” he concluded.
Only his faith in Christ could have carried Dosunmu through the adversity he’s face in his life.
“There’s nothing you can’t do in life,” he said in a TikTok video. “I didn’t watch people in my life fight – from my best friends to my brother, to everyone I know, my sisters – I didn’t watch them overcome adversity for nothing. It’s all about life. I had shoulder surgery, but guess what? It was God’s plan. To all the kids, to all the adults, to whoever it is watching this, just know, anything you’re going through in life is going to be okay. You need patience and the Lord, I promise you.”

Before each game, Dosunmu takes time to read his Bible so that he can get his mind right before he steps on the floor. That’s a good reminder to make sure we spend time in God’s word every day.
