Which Shows Are Dominating TV Ratings This Season?

By Movieguide® Contributor

What shows are leading this season? The ratings are in, and TRACKER, MATLOCK, WATSON and 60 MINUTES are leading the pack.

TRACKER keeps reaching new heights, remaining the No. 1 most-watched non-sports show. TV Line reported that it even has a “slightly larger” audience than it averaged in Season 1.

“It’s been a lot of people saying that they can watch the show with their whole family, which is really important to me,” star Justin Hartley said of the show. “I think that’s so cool. It’s hard to do nowadays, too, to produce a piece of material that is universally loved — men, women, children — you know. And you can sit down with your whole family and watch it, so I really enjoy that.”

Episodes 2.1-2.2 earned a -2 content rating from Movieguide®.

The first two episodes of season two of TRACKER balances moments of moral clarity with Colter’s efforts to protect the vulnerable and do what’s right against more ambiguous actions such as breaking the law to solve cases. The series weaves in biblical themes of helping others and standing up for the weak but also touches on darker elements like violence, light profanity, and hints of immorality, including sex outside of marriage. Overall, it’s a thrilling return, though due to some of the show’s content, discernment is recommended for older children.

CBS show WATSON currently holds the No. 2 spot, while MATLOCK falls right behind it as this season’s “most-watched new series,” with 9.9 million total viewers.

MATLOCK Episode 1.1 also earned a -2 from Movieguide®. It boasts a “Strong moral worldview with some positive references to justice, family and faith.”

The pilot episode of the new MATLOCK is fun and compelling, wth a clever performamce by Kathy Bates as the title character. The episode places strong emphasis on justice and family. For example, Matlock wants to hold those responsible for her daughter’s death. Also, the specific case reunites a father and a daughter. However, MATLOCK’s first epside has some foul language. Also, two eyewitnesses are former prostitutes. One doesn’t regret her lifestyle but the other one has reformed her life with help from God.

MATLOCK did well right out of the gate when is premiered last September, and Season 2 is already in the works.

“This reconceived Matlock was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The audience reception and critical acclaim for it has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to get started on a second season.”

60 MINUTES also continues to do well, with 8.8 million viewers, up five percent from last season.
