Trump Says ‘God Alone’ Saved Him from Assassination, Prayers Explode Across Social Media

Former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is praising God for saving his life after he was shot during an assassination attempt at a campaign event Saturday.
“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump wrote Sunday morning. “We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness.”
On Saturday, Trump revealed that he was “shot by a bullet that pierced the upper part” of his ear at a Pennsylvania rally.
“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” he told the New York Post. “I’m supposed to be dead.”
“The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle,” he added.
“[Trump] said he would be [dead] if he had not turned his head slightly to the right to read a chart on illegal immigrants. At that instant, what would have been a kill shot tore off a small piece of his ear and splattered blood on his forehead and cheek,” the Post reported.
One rallygoer, Corey Comperatore, 50, died protecting his family during the shooting. Two others were injured.
Since Saturday evening, the name of Jesus and calls for prayer from both sides of the political aisle have exploded across TV screens and social media.
“We are praying for [Trump], his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting,” Vice President Kamala Harris said.
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said, “I thank God that former President Trump is safe,” adding, “let us pray that all those in attendance at the former President’s rally today are unharmed.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump,” Democratic leader in the House, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries wrote. “I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable.”
Republican leaders offered their prayers as well.
Republican speaker Mike Johnson posted, “Praying for President Trump,” shortly after the shooting.
Faith and cultural figures have also rallied around the former President.
“I thank God that former President @realDonaldTrump is alive,” Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham, said.
Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., said, “My prayers are with President Trump, his family and all of America tonight! It’s time for our nation to commit itself to prayer, forgiveness, nonviolence and unity.”
Continue to keep President Trump, his family and all those affected by the shooting in your prayers. Pray also for America and that we would find unity in Christ amid this time of division.
