Tyler Perry Says Turn To Jesus With Anxiety: ‘Pray and Worship’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Producer, director, actor, screenwriter and author Tyler Perry shared an inspirational message about overcoming anxiety on PRAISE ON TBN.

“So, what do you do with anxiety?” Perry began. “You climb and maintain. You pray, you maintain. You worship and you pray.”

“All you have to do to get rid of anxiety is pray and worship,” Perry continued.

Perry also shared how people can use the Bible to fight anxiety.

He illustrated this, citing the story of Abraham when God commanded him to sacrifice his son. Although Abraham obeyed, he must have felt an immense amount of anxiety.

“It’s a very difficult place when you know that you’ve got anxiety all over you,” Perry continued. “So, as I look at this text and I see Isaac wondering is he the sacrifice, I came here to tell you that you are not the sacrifice. God did not bring you this far to leave you. You are not about to die. You are not about to lose everything. You are not the sacrifice.”

Just as God provided a sacrifice in place of Isaac, God sent his son Jesus as a sacrifice to take our place.

“In the Old Testament, they are under the law, so they needed the blood of a lamb for the atonement of sin,” Perry explained. “Today, we are under grace, so the blood of Jesus atones for our sins. Jesus was already the sacrifice. Let me ask you something, since God himself provided the sacrifice and was the sacrifice, why are you having so much anxiety? You’re nailing yourself to a cross that Jesus has already risen from.”

Perry recently shared an encouragement with his fans as he celebrated his 54th birthday.

The actor wrote, “This is how much life I’ve lived… but I can honestly say that I’ve worked, loved, given, shared, laughed, prayed, hoped, helped, healed, lost, cried, celebrated, and enjoyed this life more than ten times this amount of years.”

He continued, “My aunt Thelma used to say ‘wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now.’ As I celebrate 54 years on this planet I can honestly say I wouldn’t change a thing. All the pain, all the hurt, all the disappointments, all the lost, all the loneliness, they all had an opposite, and today I am living in that opposite.”

“My prayer for you today is, if you’re in a low place, please don’t stop till you see your opposite.  God bless you,” Perry concluded.

Perry has left a mark on the entertainment industry.

Tyler Perry’s website reported, “The mastermind behind 24 feature films, 20 stage plays, 17 television shows, two New York Times bestselling books, Tyler has built an empire that has attracted audiences and built communities, from the Tyler Perry Studios home base in Atlanta, Georgia, throughout the world. Movieguide® previously reported on Perry:

Producer, actor and writer Tyler Perry reflected on the importance of forgiveness and the power that came from pursuing the passions God gave him.

Perry had a troubled childhood. He grew up in a home marred by abuse and lived in an area that kept people in cycles of poverty, drug usage and violence. Growing up, Perry “didn’t think [he] was going to make it to 30 because everyone he knew was in jail or had died.”

Yet, Perry had hope because “in the midst of it, [he] had a mother who taught [him] about Jesus. Who taught [him] about faith. Who taught [him] about God. Who wouldn’t let [him] give up on it…”

After he forgave, though, Perry turned to God for motivation by seeking his plan for his life.

“For me, I go by what’s burning inside me; what’s on my heart, what’s on my soul,” Perry explained. “I feel like we all have a candle that we’re given to carry…and that light is your destiny. That light is the thing that is going to lead you to your path…So I always wanted to ask in alignment to what that light was.”
