Warner Bros. Depict Scooby-Doo’s Velma as Lesbian in New Movie, TRICK OR TREAT SCOOBY-DOO!

Warner Bros. recently portrayed Velma, the orange turtle-neck-wearing member of the Mystery Inc. clan, as a lesbian in their new movie, TRICK OR TREAT SCOOBY-DOO!

First-look clips confirmed Velma as a lesbian after showing her attraction to another female character Coco Diablo.

According to an article from Variety, producers of the 2001 SCOOBY-DOO movies planned to make Velma LGBTQ. However, Warner Bros. wanted to “water down” the character’s sexuality in the past, according to Variety.

Variety reported:

It’s long been an open secret among fans and “Scooby-Doo” creatives that Velma is gay. Even James Gunn, who wrote the early live-action films, and Tony Cervone, who served as supervising producer on the “Mystery Incorporated” series, have confirmed the character’s sexuality, but they were never able to make it official onscreen.

In 2020, Gunn tweeted that he “tried” to make Velma a lesbian in the live-action movies. “In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script,” he wrote. “But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).”

Warner Bros. is not the first studio to bow to the LGBTQ agenda and focus on sexuality in a children’s show.

Disney recently leaned into the LGBTQ storyline of a character in this year’s Pixar release, LIGHTYEAR.

The industry’s top critics bashed the Pixar movie for relying on intellectual property for audience interest.

“Lightyear is a unique miss in Pixar’s catalog, a film that neither commits to its sci-fi imagination nor tries to find authentic moments for kids,” Matthew Monagle of the Austin Chronicle said.

Jake Coyle from AP added: “A dead-end wrong turn in the usually boundless Pixar universe.”

Newsday’s Rafer Guzman said that “Pixar’s origin story of Buzz Lightyear lacks that ‘Toy Story’ magic.”

As of June 16, 2022, LIGHTYEAR holds a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest of any TOY STORY movie.

But if a bland story wasn’t enough to discourage avid TOY STORY fans, the movie’s ideological and worldview issues should.

According to Movieguide®’s review, “Buzz isn’t really the hero of this story. His lesbian friend, Alisha, is the real hero. Eventually, it’s her life that inspires Buzz, her granddaughter and everyone else.”

“Thus, the whole movie becomes a validation of LGBT ideology and an attack on masculinity and the biblical view of family. LIGHTYEAR also taints the TOY STORY franchise, because it says the politically correct movie became Andy’s favorite movie.”

It is clear from early reviews that inclusivity and woke ideology are not enough to hold up a lackluster story.

As more studios focus on incorporating sexuality into their content, their main target is clear: children’s programming.

According to repots, the studios are not alone in their promotion of sexualized cartoon characters.  Now, when users specifically search terms like “Velma,” “Dinkley,” “Velma Dinkley,” “Scooby Velma,” or “Scooby-Doo Velma” Google will rain down pro-LGBT flags and a shower of confetti on the screen, Faithwire reported.

Disney’s failure to uphold moral truth is common among many companies today. Perhaps more sinister is that the studios and streamers’ open attack against Christianity and the truth of God’s word through their TV, Movies, and other media begins with children’s content.

With LIGHTYEAR, Disney would join Netflix, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and other companies in overt over-sexualization of animated content or content geared toward younger audiences.

Despite what the LGBTQ advocacy groups in Hollywood would leave studios to believe, adding in characters who embrace non-biblical lifestyles actually causes ratings and overall popularity to plummet.

Parents do not want to introduce their young children to these progressive attitudes, and instead want children’s content to promote positive values indicative of the Holy Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Additionally, children’s programming that incorporates biblical concepts like self-sacrifice, teamwork, compassion, forgiveness, and redemption often attracts more families than programming that embraces political correct ideologies.
