WARNING: DEI Ideology Infiltrates Video Games

By Movieguide® Contributor

While schools have been the go-to place for DEI fanatics to indoctrinate our children, the toxic ideology now finds a prominent place in video games, with many promoting diversity over reality.

Seventy-one percent of the country  equating to 236.4 million people — play video games in their spare time, with over half of the user base playing them for over eight hours a week. With that much undivided attention, it is no wonder that anyone seeking to influence public opinion would target this medium. DEI believers have done just that, and the fruit of their labor is now paying off, to the detriment of our country.

Nearly every major video game released today promotes diversity, inclusion and equality in ways that often detract from the gaming experience. “God of War: Ragnarok,” for example, which was released at the end of 2022 reimagined the Norse goddess Angrboda as black, despite that being completely impossible. In another egregious example, the DEI community lauded “Spider-Man 2” for “its relentless promotion of ‘queerness.’”

Even edgier games like “Call of Duty” (COD) and “Grand Theft Auto” fall victim to this ideology, with the newest COD introducing the series’ first non-binary character with they/them pronouns, and Grand Theft Auto warning that fans of the series may not like the upcoming game because of its identity politics.

Beyond focusing on DEI politics, many games have included this ideology in smaller ways, such as allowing players to create non-binary avatars through character customizations. For example, the popular RPG “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” so blatantly promoted non-binary characters that even those sympathetic to DEI found it over the top.

DEI’s infiltration of video games highlights the importance of media wisdom and having conversations with your children about the lessons they learn through the media they consume.

Movieguide® encourages all parents to have frequent conversations with their kids about what they are seeing in their movies, TV shows and video games to allow them the space to discuss things that are disturbing to them. With the rising popularity of DEI ideologies in video games, parents should take extra care to discuss with their children why this worldview is harmful and toxic.
