Town festivals, couples getting engaged, surprise cameos — WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Season 13 finale had it all!

“What other show can say in Season 13 that it’s getting better?” showrunner and WCTH co-creator Brian Bird told Parade. “Sometimes you feel you are losing steam, but we don’t feel that way about WCTH; it’s only growing and building with each new chapter.”

He said that Season 13 made him wish he could live in Hope Valley, adding, “The storytelling was extremely epic with the raging wildfire and Hope Valley taking the people of Benson Hills into their arms and caring for them. I thought it was a beautiful way to talk about the importance of community.”

“Community has always been important to us,” Bird continued. “Hope Valley is as much of a star; the virtues and values of Hope Valley have been super important.”

WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s thirteenth season kept up that “epic” storytelling until the very end. Warning: spoilers ahead!

In the final episode of Season 13, the residents of Hope Valley come together to celebrate the Fall Harvest Festival, where romance was in the air. Lucas revealed he wouldn’t run for another term as governor and would instead follow Edie to New York, while sparks flew between Allie and Oliver.

Finally, Hearties got the moment they’d all been waiting for when Nathan proposed to Elizabeth.

“Elizabeth Thornton, will you be my wife? Will you walk with me through this valley for the rest of our days? Will you marry me?” he asked in the highly-anticipated scene.

Elizabeth responded by kissing him, to which Nathan said, “Wait, you didn’t say yes.”

“Yeah, but I was gonna,” she said.

However, that wasn’t the only major surprise in WCTH’s finale episode — Lori Loughlin’s Abigail Stanton arrives in the final scene, saying, “It’s good to be home.”

Loughlin’s return to Hope Valley was announced last year, with star Erin Krakow telling PEOPLE, “I’m so happy. Lori is one of my best friends…I really feel like her character has been missed in Hope Valley.”

“The fact that we’re getting to bring back Abigail and learn about where she’s been and see her reconnect with all of these characters that we know and love, it’s just going to be so special for the fans, certainly. But it’s also so special for our whole cast and crew because we’ve been missing her, and I just can’t wait for that reunion,” she added.

The cast and crew of WCTH are already preparing for Season 14, with Bird telling Parade, “I’m excited as I peek in right now for Season 14 — it is as fun and epic as this season. The audience needs to buckle up and not get too comfortable with Nathan and Elizabeth — because there is more coming.”

With such an action-packed season finale, Hearties can’t wait to see what’s in store for Season 14!
