MONSTERS Scares Up a Second Top Weekend
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY held off two big newcomers to take the top box office spot for the second weekend in a row. The ultra vulgar comedy THE HEAT place a strong second with attractive previews without the intense foul language. Don’t be surprised by an early fade because of its crudity. WORLD WAR Z pulled off third while the newcomer WHITE HOUSE DOWN disappointed in fourth. MAN OF STEEL rounded out the top five.   This week Disney unveils THE LONE RANGER and Universal introduced DESPICABLE ME 2. You can expect big box office for both.
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY will sail past THE CROODS this week to become both a $200 million movie and the top animated movie so far this year. DESPICABLE ME 2 could give it a very strong chase – the word is it’s a lot of fun.
