Why This Former Disney Star Is Putting Her ‘Phone Down’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Ashley Tisdale is taking a step back from social media and choosing to live “in the moment.”
“As the world is getting loud I find myself wanting to share less and less,” the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star wrote in an Instagram story. “Maybe it’s because I don’t feel I can contribute in my positive way when everything feels so negative.”
The mother of two added that her daughters, Jupiter, 3, and Emerson, 5 months, were also a factor in her decision, saying she is “trying to protect my peace while navigating life with work and two kids.”
“I’ve been loving putting my phone down and being in the moment,” Tisdale continued. “Social media is such a blessing when you want to connect with everyone but can also be so noisy when used with judgement and assumptions.”

Tisdale often shares personal messages with her Instagram followers. Following the recent LA wildfires, the actress wrote that the experience “has shown me how many amazing people I have in my life and I am far from alone.”
“The amount of people checking in with each other is so amazing,” she continued. “You realize in dark moments you have each other. The human connection is not lost.”
Tisdale, who rose to fame on the Disney Channel through the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, as well as shows like THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY and PHINEAS AND FERB, recently spoke to Cosmopolitan about her experience with young stardom.
“I just didn’t know myself. I was playing characters for so long,” she explained. “It wasn’t until a couple of years ago, when I was faced with anxiety and depression, that I was like, Oh, I need to get to know myself, and I need to really give myself some space and time to learn who I am, because I can only mask my own self through characters for so long, and then I’m gonna meet myself.”
Tisdale continued, “A lot of people don’t take the time to work on themselves, and I’m really proud of the moments that I did. I learned all of these little things that are not perfect, and I think those flaws are what make us beautiful. It was nice to finally do that because I just remember being such a perfectionist for so long.”
