Brock Pudy was the last overall pick (262nd) in the 2022 NFL Draft class. But despite being known as “Mr. Irrelevant,” Purdy is now pursuing a Super Bowl appearance for the second time in his career.

But more than anything, he wants to make sure he uses his platform and resources for God’s glory.

“I think over the first couple of years, it was a good transition just in terms of, you know, I had my roommates and everything, and then I got married and slowly, just, I was playing more, obviously, as a starting quarterback for the 49ers. So I was just able to, in a sense, ease my way into the whole role,” Purdy told Fox News Digital.

“But more than anything, I’ve had some really good people in my life to remind me of keeping life simple, not buying into the flashy kind of lifestyle or anything and just keeping my life simple so that I can go out in the field and do what I’ve always done and play ball, keep my mind clean clear,” he continued. “So, it’s been a good transition, but I want to use my role and platform to love people, serve people, and, you know, not just crave it for myself kind of thing. So that’s just where I’m at. That’s how I view it.”

Though his partnership with Toyota, Pudy has given away countless vehicles to families in need.

“Just for what Toyota and myself, what we stand for, to be able to partner up and then be able to give back to our community, especially the 49er fans and with the veterans and children with pediatric illnesses in need. To help out them and their families was pretty cool, man. Very thankful that I partnered with Toyota and we were able to do something like that,” he emphasized.

After the 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 4, Purdy noticed the tension in the locker room and within the team. He had to step up and be the voice of reason for the team to help them bounce back as they prepared to face off against the Eagles on Jan. 11.

“I think guys have done a good job of just understanding, like yeah, it sucked what had happened and not capitalizing on a really good opportunity. But, we are in the playoffs and we don’t have time to dwell on the negative things. Yes, let’s learn from them, but we’ve got to move on and flip the page pretty quickly because we’re about to go and our season’s on the line now,” Purdy said in the post game press conference.

More than anything, though, Purdy knows that whether his team wins or loses, his future is secure in Christ.

“I believe that Jesus Christ did come down and die for my sins and rose again,” he told Sports Spectrum previously. “And He’s living and sitting beside God on the throne. And so it’s not just some story, some fairy tale thing. It’s real. It allows me to stay level-headed and real with life. And I know what my purpose is: that He has allowed me to play my game and has allowed me to play football at this level.”

Purdy’s life is a powerful reminder to use the resources and talents God gives us to glorify Him and help others.
