Why Candace Cameron Bure Shows Love to Those Who Hate Her

Candace Cameron Bure knows that it’s important to show kindness even to haters.

In a world that can be hostile and hateful to Christians, she’s learned through God’s word how to manage difficult situations. During an interview with Allie Schnacky on “The JWLKRS Podcast,” Bure shared her thoughts.

Schnacky asked Bure, “When you are going through so much public hate, how do you continue to bear the image of Christ in front of thousands of people?”

“I think it’s easier for some of us than others because some of us have fiery spirits more than others,” the actress explained. “Some of us are much more quiet or reserved in that way, and you have different reactions when you’re put under pressure.”

Bure explained that she doesn’t like conflict, and her hope is for resolution if possible.

“I don’t love conflict,” she said. “I’m not afraid of it, I like resolution, so I’m always happy to have the discussion because I like directness and I like resolution.”

Bure then read 1 Peter 3:14-17:

“But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be intimidated, but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give defense to anyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that is in you. Yet do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience so that when you’re accused. Those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame, for it’s better to suffer for doing good if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.”

She explained how even if our personality is to defend and fight back, God gives us the power to remain gentle and respectful.

“If you are like a person that wants to get up and fight, and that gentleness and respect is hard for you to get to, just remember you have full power of that gentleness and respect through the Holy Spirit. If you are in Christ, God gives it to you through the fruit of the spirit. He gives you love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control. So, you have it if you ask for it, that’s through God’s strength not your own.”

Bure has first-hand experience responding to people with kindness.

In 2022, a cancelation effort was leveled against her after she said that Great American Family would “keep traditional marriage at the core.”

Following the backlash, she responded with grace.

“I am a devoted Christian. Which means that I believe that every human being bears the image of God,” she posted on Instagram at the time. “Because of that, I am called to love all people, and I do…To those who hate what I value and who are attacking me online: I love you.”

She also stood up for her values when she cohosted THE VIEW.
