Country star Jelly Roll recently opened up about why he “love[s] where Christianity is heading.”

“I love where contemporary Christianity is heading right now,” he said during an appearance on the “Keep Hammering Collective” podcast. “I think it’s back in love and empathy.”

Jelly Roll added, “It’s not being preachy on corners and through megaphones. It’s like through acts of service, through acts of kindness. Like, Christians are back showing up for people.”

“It feels like we’re talking about Jesus in a really cool way again. We’re not judging people on lifestyle stuff with Jesus anymore. We’re like, ‘Yo, let them find Jesus,’” the singer continued.

Jelly Roll often speaks about his own path to faith, including the redemptive elements of his story, going from an imprisoned drug dealer to a Grammy-nominated artist.

“I just never thought this was the journey,” he said during an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “It can happen dude…if God gets involved [and] you have a little humility.”

Jelly Roll continued, “There’s a Scripture in the Bible that says in Christ, all things are a new creation, which I thought was interesting because it didn’t talk about restoring the old. It says that in God we are a completely new creation. You know what I mean?”

“I was looking at it at first like I’m restoring my heart,” he explained. “But then when you’re saying that, I’m like, ‘No, I didn’t restore my heart. I got a whole new heart.’ This is a brand new heart, Joe. You know what I mean? It might be cloaked as the old one, but God touched it. It’s a whole new heart, baby. It’s a different heart.”

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, Jelly Roll spoke about his amazing story, saying, “It shows what God can do, what you can’t. It shows how much change can happen in your life.”

In December of 2025, Jelly Roll received an official pardon from Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee for his previous crimes. The singer had previously said obtaining this pardon would make it easier for him to travel, both on tour and as part of his humanitarian efforts.

“His story is remarkable, and it’s a redemptive, powerful story, which is what you look for and what you hope for,” Lee told reporters of his decision to pardon the singer.

Jelly Roll leaned on his faith to see him through hard times. Now, he’s encouraging others to pursue a relationship with God and change their lives.
