Did you know John Stamos almost played this iconic Christmas character?

“I was originally going to play [The Grinch],” Stamos said on an episode of the ‘TIS THE GRINCH HOLIDAY PODCAST, referring to the 2000 movie HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.

However, the FULL HOUSE actor has to turn the role down for a very good reason.

“I went to the makeup test,” he said. “And I was allergic to the, you know, all the prosthetics.”

Jim Carey went on to play the Grinch in the popular movie, but even he struggled with the heavy-duty prosthetics and makeup the role required, saying he could “hardly breathe” while filming the movie.

“It was an extremely excruciating process,” Carey told PEOPLE. “The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’”

Stamos and his FULL HOUSE castmates are rallying around friend and co-star Dave Coulier, who announced he had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

“I’ve never seen anybody with cancer that is so positive, so optimistic,” Stamos told PEOPLE of his longtime friend. “I truly believe he’s going to make it through.”

The actor added that Coulier is also committed to helping others battling cancer.

“He’s really dedicated to helping people that are going through the same thing that he is,” Stamos said. “I’m proud of him for what he’s doing.”

In an Instagram post showing support for Coulier, Stamos wrote, “You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity — it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you.”
