Why Kelsey Grammer Views FRASIER Reboot as Ministry
By Movieguide® Contributor
Kelsey Grammer views the upcoming Paramount+ FRASIER reboot as a ministry opportunity because it allows him to promote virtue and morality.
“The ethics of FRASIER – the study of good, let’s say – was important to us,” Grammer told The Independent. “It seemed important to all the people that were involved in the original one, and it has remained important in the show today.”
“FRASIER has been my ministry, you could say. He’s trying to spread the good word, to put some love in the world – and tolerance, true tolerance. Those are powerful words, but most people use them to manipulate. I think tolerance is a beautiful, beautiful concept. Not particularly realized in behavior in our country, but still a good goal,” he continued.
Grammer believes that Frasier’s commitment to goodness is what made him a compelling character in the first place. While the original shows did not regularly address religion, they were concerned with ethics and morality. Given Grammer’s excitement for the upcoming show, it is likely that the emphasis on good continued.
While the upcoming show is missing many of FRASIER’s key characters, Grammer is thrilled about the new cast.
“At first, you cast these people, you’ve never seen them before,” he said. “And boy, by about the middle of the second show, I thought, ‘Son of a gun. He’s actually doing it. He’s Frasier’s kid. Wow.’ So I think it’s gonna be a great discovery for people. There’s some new people on the show to really fall in love with, and arguably it may even be funnier.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the FRASIER reboot:
The sequel series has been in the works for over a year now, and the streaming service just officially ordered episodes.
The new show will follow Dr. Frasier Crane as he navigates a new phase of his life in a new city. Kelsey Grammer is reprising his role as the lead character, but no other cast members have been confirmed yet.
However, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin are rumored to be making appearances as Niles Crane, Daphne, and Roz.
The cast will also feature new characters that Frasier encounters in his new job and life.
Writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli are working on the script, which is fitting, considering one of their past hobbies — the pair ran a Twitter account where they made up fictional scenes and lines for a modern-day FRASIER.
