Why This Musician Makes Sharing the Gospel Her Mission

Pop star Jeannie Ortega explained why she has made sharing the Gospel and pointing people to Christ her life goal.
Ortega has lived a crazy life. Growing up, her family was part of the occult, worshipping the dead and working to communicate with spirits. One of her relatives was even a high priestess in their practice, and Ortega was set to take her place. As she entered the working world, Ortega also found success in the entertainment business, landing songs on the Disney Channel and working with major artists like Rhianna.
However, in 2007, she had a transformative experience with the Lord. She abandoned her old life and beliefs for the truth, freedom and safety that only the Lord provides. Since then, she has been working to help others find their value in the Lord rather than in the dark places she knows all too well.
“I really just want people to know that I’ve been a pop star, I’ve been a part of the occult, I’ve done a lot of crazy things in my life but there is nothing and no one that compares to God,” Ortega told Movieguide®. “Having that relationship [with Christ] and being secure in Him and surrendering to Him is the safest and best place to be.”
Given her background with the occult, she is extremely concerned about the rise of witchcraft that has struck America in the past four years.

“There’s only one spirit that we should be in communication with and that’s the Holy Spirit,” Ortega said. “Opening ourselves up to any other spirit is a very dangerous thing because it’s a very unforgiving spiritual realm, and the devil is behind every other spirit if it’s not the Holy Spirit.”
“I don’t play when it comes to evil,” she continued. “I don’t play when it comes to even the celebration of evil or anything like that because I understand the spiritual doors that that opens.”
To help people find the light rather than fall into the darkness, Ortega is getting ready to release a new album, Letting Go, pointing listeners to the Lord. Throughout the album, she is honest about her struggles and speaks to the freedom she has found since committing her life to God.
“It’s like I’m releasing all the cares of life, all the pressure, the anxieties, the disappointments… As you walk with God, the longer you walk with [Him] you realize you’re not in control of anything,” Ortega explained.
“My hope is that when people listen to [the album] they’re inspired to get gut-wrenchingly honest with God and release and surrender,” she added.

Letting Go marks Ortega’s first album in 10 years, and it releases on Nov. 15.
“It’s been almost a decade since I released music and almost 20 years since I released an album that was 100% Jeannie. I am so excited for the world to hear this music,” said Ortega. “It’s honest, vulnerable, relatable, and fun to listen to. In life, we all get to a point where we realize we have to let go to keep on progressing in life. This is my declaration!”
She celebrated the album’s upcoming release on Instagram.
“I’m grateful to have surrendered my life to God so I KNOW who steers my ship, and I can rest in that,” she wrote. “But as much as this album was for me, it was also for you. I hope you relate, you cry it out, you get empowered to keep pushing, and like me, you let go.”
