Taylor Hanson, from the ’90s pop group Hanson, loves touring the world too much to want to do residency performances with his brothers.
“I think residencies make a lot of sense for bands,” Hanson told PEOPLE at the 2026 Grammy Hall of Fame Gala.
But “I like moving. I like being on the move,” he explained. “One of the best parts about making music is being able to see the world. So I could see why [a residency] would be appealing, and I wouldn’t say it will never happen, but I would miss going to the places that I get to go to.”
Although residencies have their benefits, Hanson loves to travel and tour. Touring is about far more than performing songs on stage, and he thinks travel is one of the greatest rewards of being a musician. Visiting cities such as Milan, New York and Sydney allows him to experience different cultures and meet fans from around the world.

“No one has an answer for why people continue to show up to shows and follow bands. For me, I do music because I love it, and hopefully fans feel that,” Hanson said. “It’s an exchange of love. It’s a connection… It’s just an honor to get to be a part of people’s lives through music.”
The band Hanson, made up of brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac, began making music in 1992 and is perhaps best known for their single “MMMBop,” which reached the Billboard #2 spot in 1997.
“We’re proud of where we’ve come from,” the band said previously. “You never want to live in the past, but your origin is what it is. It’s where you came [from] and there was a lot of great music.”
Taylor performed the song “Pink Moon” by artist Nick Drake at the third annual Grammy Hall of Fame Gala.
“I love this song,” he told PEOPLE. “Nick Drake is a lesser-known artist as far as the hits and the charts go. He was somebody that was not really known in his lifetime as much as he was after, and his music just hits my heart and has really touched so many people.”
The Grammy Museum Instagram account shared their excitement about Hanson performing.
“We’re excited to have Taylor Hanson back at the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum’s Grammy Hall Of Fame Gala on May 8, joining an incredible lineup of performers!” they said in the post. “During the special evening hosted by Anthony Mason, he’ll be performing a tribute to Nick Drake’s ‘Pink Moon’ and celebrating the 2026 inducted recordings, along with Architect of Sound recipient Norah Jones and Visionary Of Music Award recipient Warner Records. Learn more about this year’s inducted recordings and the event at the link in bio.”
Fans will have to wait to see if a Hanson residency ever happens.
