‘You Don’t Get That Time Back’: Ryan Reynolds Takes Sabbatical for Family
By Movieguide® Staff
Actor and comedian Ryan Reynolds announced that he is taking a break from Hollywood to spend more time with his family.
After calling a wrap on filming for his upcoming movie, SPIRITED, the FREE GUY actor took to Instagram.
“That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago,” Reynolds captioned a photo of him and co-star Will Ferrell.
“Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer…” he added.
However, THE CROODS actor said that he wanted to prioritize his wife, Blake Lively, and their three daughters, James Reynolds, Inez Reynolds, and Betty Reynolds.
“Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists,” Reynolds said. “These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”
“I’m just trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them,” Reynolds told The Hollywood Reporter. “You know, you don’t really get that time back.”
Reynolds said that the break will last “till the end of the summer. It just provides me an opportunity to be home.”
“I love being a girl dad,” he told Access Hollywood in November. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would’ve imagined. I come from all boys. I have three older brothers — I’m the youngest of four boys, so for me to have three daughters has just been such a ride, and I love every second of it.”
Although Reynolds, 43, has been in movies with questionable content, such as the DEADPOOL movies, he also stars in family-friendly content.
In 2013, he starred in both TURBO and Movieguide® Award-Nominated THE CROODS.
Ryan Reynolds is also set to star in an upcoming fantasy comedy directed by A QUIET PLACE director, John Krasinski.

Krasinski is also writing and directing the untitled project for Paramount, with Reynold’s production banner, Maximum Effort, producing.
Recently, Krasinski has proven to make pro-family movies with biblical values, such as his sci-fi movies, A QUIET PLACE, and A QUIET PLACE PART II.
