This week, YouTube TV will launch something almost revolutionary in the streaming industry: lower-cost packages.
With streaming prices that seem to get higher every year, this is good news for consumers. The bundles include sports, news and entertainment and will cost less than its $82.99 core monthly plan, Variety reported. The comprehensive core plan offers over 100 networks.
The new plans roll out this week and will be available to all of the US over the next several weeks. In December, YouTube said it would offer more than 10 lower-cost packages.

“TV should be easy, and with YouTube TV Plans launching this week, we’re giving customers more control over their subscriptions,” Josh Yang, director of product management at YouTube, said. “…With YouTube TV Plans, customers now have the choice and flexibility to watch the channels they love, all in one place.”
The TV Sports tier will cost $64.99 a month for existing users and $54.99 a month for new customers for their first year. It includes ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, FS1, NBC Sports Network and all of the ESPN networks.
Sports + News costs $71.99 a month for existing users and $56.99 for new users. Entertainment is $54.99 a month for existing subscribers and $44.99 a month for new users. News + Entertainment is $69.99 a month for existing users and $59.99 a month for new users.
Tech Crunch observed the entertainment plan is $28 cheaper than the main plan and includes FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, HGTV and other main broadcasters.
Yang said the Sports + News plan is “Priced $11 lower than the main YouTube TV plan, get everything in the Sports Plan plus your national news, with networks such as CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, in addition to CSPAN, Bloomberg, and Fox Business.”
Any plan subscribers will get access to YouTube TV’s product features. That includes unlimited DVR, up to six members on one account, key plays and Multiview. Cheaper plan members can purchase add-ons like NFL Sunday Ticket, RedZone, HBO Max and more.
“Our goal is to let you tailor your subscription with more options,” Christian Oestlien, Head of Subscriptions, wrote in a YouTube blog post in December. “Whether you stick with our main YouTube TV plan with 100+ channels, focus on sports, combine sports and news, or select a plan centered on family and entertainment content, subscribers will be able to easily choose the plan that works best for them.”
YouTube is already the most popular streamer, and these packages are likely to earn it even more favor.
