YouTube’s Latest Update Makes Experience Even More Like Watching TV

YouTube is making some changes that will make the app feel a little more like your favorite streaming platform.

Creators on the app will now be able to divide their content into seasons and episodes, making the experience more TV-like.

“YouTube has not described how the new formatting will translate to desktop and mobile UI, but expect to see it in some form on all platforms,” The Verge reported. “Creators are getting other TV-focused tools, too, including the ability to add ‘immersive content’ that plays on their channel page.”

YouTube has recently experienced more growth than any other streaming platform. In August, Nielsen reported an increase of 11%.

Chief Product Officer Johanna Voolich said of the upcoming change, “We’re making other improvements to the TV experience with immersive content that plays directly from a creator’s channel, streamlined subscription options and easier access to links in descriptions.”

The seasons and episodes feature will become available in 2025, and other new features will soon roll out as well, which Google announced in a recent blog post.

Following the “Made on Youtube” event last week, Voolich said, “The living room has become a new frontier for creators who are increasingly crafting experiences designed specifically for the big screen…We’ve never been more optimistic about what lies ahead as we continue to relentlessly innovate for our global community. YouTube is where creativity flourishes, communities thrive, and businesses grow.”

YouTubers have shown that they’re interested in updates like these. MSN shared, “Some YouTubers have tediously created seasons and episodes for their shows by utilizing playlists and numbered naming conventions under each upload. But they do not always translate in a friendly way on YouTube’s apps on TV platforms like Apple TV, Roku, and others.”

Movieguide® recently reported on YouTube’s new AI features:

YouTube is joining the surge of companies utilizing AI.

At the “Made on YouTube” creator event this week in New York, the social media giant shared some new plans for the platform.

“Dream Screen, which we announced last year, lets you generate backgrounds in YouTube Shorts — and now it’s getting even better. Google DeepMind’s latest video generation model, Veo, will bring more realistic backgrounds and, for the first time, standalone video clips to Dream Screen,” a Google blog post recapped.

In addition to this, YouTube is updating its “Inspiration Tab” in YouTube Studio.

Using generative AI, it “will help curate suggestions including video ideas, titles, thumbnails and outlines ‘to match your style,’” Variety reported.
