YouVersion’s Verse of the Year Brought ‘Supernatural Peace’ to Users

YouVersion’s Bible app’s 2024 Verse of the Year brought “hope [and] peace” to the millions who use the app.
2024’s Verse of the Year was Philippians 4:6 — “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
App user Cheryl Mears told The Oklahoman that she took comfort in the verse over a turbulent year that included seeing her son graduate high school and move out of state for an internship.
“I had a lot of anxiousness about that, but I just know that God’s Word says, ‘Do not be anxious about anything,’” she shared. “And, whenever he says that, it can be the big things in your life, it can be the small things in your life, he wants us to lean on him.”
Mears continued, “When we pray and we take things to the Lord, there’s just this peace that happens. The more that you pray, the more that you take things to the Lord, the more peace that you have, and it’s that supernatural peace that comes from Jesus.”
YouVersion Founder and CEO Bobby Gruenewald spoke about the popularity of the Verse of the Year, saying, “In a season where we see a lot or hear a lot about people being anxious about there being polarization, people that are kind of at odds with each other, I think it’s encouraging that people are looking for hope and a place to turn with prayer to find peace in the midst of some of those things.”
In a press release, he said, “In many cases, our anxiety comes from holding onto worries that we aren’t meant to carry. To me, this verse being sought out the most this year is an illustration that our community is seeking God in prayer and choosing to trust Him to carry their burdens — and we’re seeing that supported in the data.”
Philippians 4 was popular overall on Bible apps this year, according to Christianity Today.
They reported that Philippians 4 was “the most read New Testament chapter on BibleGateway.com.”
