On DVD November 12, 2019: Utterly Unacceptable Meets Mixed Morality

GOOD BOYS

Quality:
**
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
GOOD BOYS is a raunchy, lewd comedy about three foul mouthed 6th Grade boys who get into trouble when they “borrow” a drone to spy on two older teenage girls. In between all the obscenity and R-rated lewd references, GOOD BOYS has some brief funny moments, but it’s a truly abhorrent, loathsome comedy promoting the destruction of children’s innocence and purity.

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is a sweet sequel that follows Red and his friends as they team up with their arch-rivals from Pig Island to stop a threat to their homeland. THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is witty, fun and ultimately redemptive for many characters. That said, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for some light profanities, toilet humor, animated violence, and other miscellaneous elements.

47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED

Quality:
***
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED is a thriller about four American high school students living in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, including two estranged sisters, who encounter great white sharks while exploring an underwater cave filled with ancient Mayan ruins. 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED sometimes stretches credulity, but it delivers intense thrills and shocks, with a wild but exciting ending and a nice side story of two sisters overcoming their differences. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution because of the movie’s scary encounters with Nature’s pitfalls and some light foul language.

THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON is the story of two men, one of normal intelligence yet prone to criminal behavior and the other a Down’s Syndrome man seeking to escape assisted living, who embark on a journey together on a small boat. THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON is a true delight, with a strong Christian, moral, redemptive worldview, including a baptism scene and some gospel music, but it’s marred by too much foul language and some light Romantic elements.

THE FAREWELL

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE FAREWELL is a bittersweet comedy about a geographically dispersed Chinese family forced to reconcile Old Chinese traditions and their adopted western culture as they come together to say goodbye to their dying matriarch without letting her know her terminal condition. THE FAREWELL is devoid of any foul language, but, except for a brief mention of Christian influence in a positive light and the movie’s celebration of family, it mostly presents a pagan approach where the dead are honored and heavy drinking takes place at various times.

BRIAN BANKS

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
BRIAN BANKS is based on a true story about a teenager who once had potential for being a professional football player until a girl in his high school class falsely accuses him of rape, so he gets sentenced to six years in prison. BRIAN BANKS tells a captivating, encouraging, inspiring story about an innocent man finally obtaining justice. BRIAN BANKS strong Christian elements where the title character prays multiple times to God for guidance, but it’s marred by a couple “f” words and two strong profanities; so, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution.

AFTER THE WEDDING (2019)

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
In AFTER THE WEDDING, a woman travels to New York to meet a wealthy benefactor in hopes to secure funding for her orphanage in India, only to discover that the orphanage’s potential benefactor is the adoptive mother of her daughter she gave up for adoption 20 years ago.
